Analysis of inventory management at PT Tunasindo

Sulawesi Selatan merupakan salah satu sentra peternakan ayam broiler dan ayam petelur di Kawasan Timur Indonesia. Provinsi ini memberi konstribusi lebih dari setengah dari kebutuhan seluruh pulau Sulawesi. Makassar merupakan sentra produksi daging ayam broiler yang produksinya mencapai 29 juta ekor pertahun. Selain itu Sidrap, (salah satu Kabupaten di Sulawesi Selatan) merupakan sentra peternakan ayam petelur. Dengan total populasi ayam petelur 6 juta ekor di Sulawesi Selatan, produksi telur di wilayah ini mencapai 250 ton. Tingkat produksi 70%, yang berarti masih dibawah standar normal produksi. PT. Tunasindo, berlokasi di Makassar, merupakan sebuah perusahaan yang bergerak di bidang perunggasan khususnya makanan ternak. Pakan merupakan produk dari Sierad Produce. Seiring dengan tingkat pertumbuhan populasi ayam, terjadi peningkatan penggunaan pakan ternak siap pakai. Thesis ini mencoba mengkaji sistem persediaan barang yang diterapkan di perusahaan dan menganalisanya dengan teori-teori persediaan yang relevan untuk mengetahui kemungkinan ditingkatkannya performa sistem persediaan barang di perusahaan tersebut. Model-model yang digunakan antara lain: - Economic Order Quantity, untuk menetapkan biaya optimum awal persediaan. - Reorder point dan periodic review system untuk mengetahui periode pemesanan barang. - Safety stock untuk menentukan tingkat persediaan barang selama waktu pemesanan menurut tingkat pelayanan yang dikehendaki. - ABC konsep untuk menerapkan skala prioritas dari item-item barang. Analisa menunjukkan model yang dapat diterapkan adalah EOQ dengan safety stock, ABC konsep, dan kombinasi reorder point dengan periodic review system.

One of the major broiler and layer producing regions in East Indonesia is South Sulawesi. The province contributed more than half of the total inventory of the island. Makassar is the top broiler producing region, which placed at nearly 29 million birds per annum. On the other hand, Sidrap is the region with the highest inventory of layer. With province’s layer population of 6 millions hens, the egg production in the region reaches 250 tons. The average of the layer hen production in the province is 70%, which is below the normal standard. PT. Tunasindo, located in Makassar, is a company which does its business in animal feedmill. The product is made by Sierad Produce. In line with the growth of chicken population, the use of manufacture animal feedmill is automatically increases. This thesis is trying to study the current inventory system and relevant theories to see if the performance of the existing system can be increased. Models that used are: - Economic Order Quantity, to determining the preliminary optimum cost of inventory. - Reorder point and periodic review system to obtain the most appropriate period of ordering. - Safety stock to decide the level of inventory during lead time according to the desired level. - ABC concept to apply priorities of items in the inventory. Analysis shows model that can be applied are EOQ with safety stock, ABC concept, and combination of reorder point with periodic review system.
