One of the cancers that is still developing in Indonesia with a prevalence rate of 0.1% is oral cancer. Oral cancer treatment can be done with therapies such as chemotherapy, and radiotherapy which are thought to have side effects. Xerostomia is a subjective feeling of dry mouth accompanied or not accompanied by hyposalivation. Xerostomia treatment with artificial saliva has been circulating in various products with different compositions. The purpose of writing this narrative review is to find out the composition of artificial saliva in xerostomia therapy as a form of post-radio-chemotherapy for oral cancer patients. A literature search was conducted using the Google Scholar, EBSCO, Scopus, and PubMed databases. The references obtained from the four databases after filtering the inclusion, exclusion, and duplication criteria were 41 journals. Based on the literature study, artificial saliva containing mucin base or mucin base with xanthan gum has rheological characteristics that are almost close to native saliva, while artificial saliva containing carboxymethyl cellulose or glycerol base has a higher viscosity level than native saliva. In addition, artificial saliva containing flavorings or sweeteners can increase the patient's sense of comfort. Among the five artificial saliva products that have been published, it was found that each product has different basic components with similar roles or functions, such as lubrication. Kanker merupakan salah satu penyakit tidak menular yang terjadi akibat adanya pertumbuhan tidak terkendali sel-sel abnormal. Salah satu kanker yang masih berkembang di Indonesia dengan tingkat prevalensi 0,1% yaitu kanker rongga mulut. Penanganan kanker rongga mulut dapat dilakukan dengan terapi seperti kemoterapi, dan radioterapi yang diduga dapat memberikan efek samping. Xerostomia merupakan perasaan subjektif akan mulut kering yang disertai atau tidak disertai hiposalivasi. Penanganan xerostomia dengan saliva artifisial telah beredar dalam berbagai produk dengan komposisi yang berbeda-beda.

Tujuan dari penulisan narrative review ini adalah untuk mengetahui komposisi saliva artifisial sebagai terapi xerostomia pasca radio-kemoterpai pada apasien kanker rongga mulut. Pencarian literatur dilakukan denga menggunakan database Google Scholar, EBSCO, Scopus, dan PubMed. Referensi yang didapatkan dari keempat database tersebut setelah dilakukan penyaringan kriteria inklusi, eksklusi, dan penghilangan duplikasi yaitu 41 jurnal.

Berdasarkan studi literatur, saliva artifisial yang mengandung bahan dasar mucin atau bahan dasar mucin dengan xanthan gum memiliki karakter reologi yang hampir mendekati saliva asli, sedangkan saliva artifisial yang mengandung bahan dasar karboksimetil selulosa atau gliserol memiliki tingkat viskositas yang lebih tinggi daripada saliva asli. Selain itu, saliva artifisial yang mengandung perasa atau pemanis dapat meningkatkan rasa nyaman pada pasien. Diantara kelima produk saliva artifisial yang telah dipublikasikan, ditemukan bahwa masing-masing produk memiliki komponen dasar yang berbeda-beda dengan peran atau fungsi yang hampir mirip, seperti lubrikasi.
