Omphalitis is one of the main causes of chick death in the first week after hatching. Chickens with omphalitis that can grow to maturity, will be disturbed by their growth to become stunted. Stuntness in omphalitic chicks is related to small, sparse duodenal villi and reduced nutrient absorption area. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of omphalitis on the surface area of the duodenal villi. In this study used 12 broiler chickens. The chickens used were healthy DOC and omphalitis DOC which were reared for 30 days. At the age of 30 days, necropsy was performed on all chickens and then a sample of the duodenum was taken from each. The sample was made histopathological preparations. In each preparation, 2 duodenal villi were selected to measure the height and width using Image Raster 3 software. The measurement results were then used to calculate the surface area of the duodenal villi using the formula 2? x (VW/2) x VH, with ? = 3.14 , VW = villi width, and VH = villi height. The surface area results were then analyzed using the Independent T Test. The results showed that omphalitis chickens had shorter, slender duodenal villi, wide spacing between villi, and smaller surface area. The result of the Independent T-Test (n=24) was P<0>
