Penggunaan Ejaan pada Makalah Mahasiswa

This study aims to describe spelling errors and the causes of spelling errors in the papers of UGM Indonesian Language and Literature students Class of 2021. This study used qualitative research methods. Sources of research data are papers and questionnaires. This research data is in the form of language units in papers and questionnaire answers. The data collection techniques used are listening and recording techniques as well as distributing questionnaires. The data analysis methods used are padan orthographic and referential methods. The data presentation technique used is an informal data presentation technique. The theoretical foundations used are PUEBI, language errors, and correlative analysis.
The results of this study show that there are spelling errors in student papers, namely misuse of letters (capital letters, italics, bold), words (affix words, prepositions, particles, abbreviations and acronyms, numbers and numbers, and pronouns), punctuation marks (commas, semicolons, colons, hyphens, quotation marks, single quotes, and slashes), and absorption elements (writing -asi and -si, k, and -is). Misuse of spelling is caused by four factors, namely lack of understanding of spelling usage rules, lack of accuracy in checking spelling use, laziness to double-check spelling rules, and absence from lectures. Thus, the number of spelling errors determines the level of complexity of using a particular spelling and the cause of spelling errors is based on internal factors.
