Although the impostor phenomenon has been widely studied globally, literature on this phenomenon in Indonesia is still lacking. This study aims to understand the impostor phenomenon in Indonesian female Medical and Engineering students including the dynamics of their experience, contributing factors and the impacts experienced. A qualitative approach in the form of interviews and interpretative phenomenology analysis (IPA) was used to understand how participants experience the impostor phenomenon. The findings in this study indicate that the impostor phenomenon experienced by Medical and Engineering students in Indonesia is characterized by various characteristics such as perfectionist tendencies, negative reactions to failure and success, social comparison behavior, and discomfort towards praise. The impostor phenomenon experienced by students in this study was driven by various factors such as family, friends, learning environment, social media, and their gender identity as women. The impostor phenomenon can lead to stress, burnout, lack of self-confidence, inactivity during the learning process, and fear of taking on a new job.
