This research is carried out to know the characteristic of vegetation of the butterfly habitat type at the tourism park of Bantimurung, South Sulawesi. The data collection was done in dry season for four months between July to October 1995. The daily observation was devided into four time periods namely between 08.00 a.m. to 10.00 a.m, between 10.00 a.m to 12.00 noon, between 12.00 to 14.00 p.m, and ????etween 14.00 to 16.00 p.m. The data abtained was analysed by using linear discriminant function method to evaluate the variance between habitat I. II. III dan IV. To examine the relationship between the characteristic of the vegetation and the a·ctivi ty periodicity of the butterflies, multiple regression analysis was used. Based on the result of the linear discriminant function analysis, it was indicated that the precentage of habitat type I coald be totally (100%) classified into habitat I, habitat type II was 66,67% classified into habitat type II and 33,33% into habitat type I. Habitat type III could be classified totally (100%) into habitat type III, as well as habitat type IV whish is totally (100%) covered into habitat type IV. From the regression analysis it was indicated that the relationship between the time-period of the butterfly activities and the characteristics of the vegetation were determined into R2 (determinant coefficient), 95,58%, 92,95%, 96,64% and 98,03% respectively for habitat type I, II, III and IV. The variance analysis indicated that the independent variable for the timeperiod of the butterfly activities in each habitat type was significantly differed within 5%. Furthermore based on the regression analysis showed that the peak of the time-period of the butterfly activities was at 10.00 a.m to 12.00 noon. he result of questionaire abtained from 150 respondent of tourists indicated that the abundancy of butterflies in Bantimurung Tourism Park was only second alternative to be chosen after the attractive ness of the water fall, the cave and the steep stone wall climbing.
