Drama Korea yang tersebar melalui fenomena Korean wave (hallyu) menjadikan kesenangan penonton sebagai indikator penting dalam mendongkrak popularitas. Akhir-akhir ini, tokoh utama drama Korea lebih bervariasi dengan tidak hanya menggambarkan watak positif tetapi juga watak yang negatif. Tokoh yang termasuk ke dalam tokoh ambigu atau morally ambiguous character (MAC) tidak jarang melakukan pelanggaran moral walaupun dengan tujuan yang baik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis peran persepsi penonton terhadap pelanggaran moral tokoh ambigu pada kesenangan penonton drama Korea di Indonesia. Hipotesis penelitian ini ialah persepsi penonton terhadap pelanggaran moral tokoh ambigu berperan negatif pada tingkat kesenangan penonton drama Korea. Sebanyak 186 responden (L = 15, P = 171) berusia 18-25 tahun yang menonton drama Korea dalam waktu satu bulan sebelum penelitian telah mengisi survei daring. Analisis regresi linear sederhana menunjukkan persepsi terhadap pelanggaran moral tokoh ambigu tidak berperan signifikan terhadap tingkat kesenangan penonton. Akan tetapi, persepsi pelanggaran moral pada domain fairness/cheating berperan negatif secara signifikan dengan kontribusi sebesar 2,5% terhadap tingkat kesenangan penonton drama Korea.

Korean dramas that spread through the Korean Wave (hallyu) phenomenon make audience enjoyment an important indicator in boosting popularity. Lately, the main characters of Korean dramas are more varied, portraying not only positive but also negative characters. Characters who are included in the morally ambiguous character (MAC) category often commit moral violations, even with good intentions. This study aims to analyze the role of audience perception on the moral violations of ambiguous characters in the enjoyment of Korean drama audiences in Indonesia. The hypothesis of this study is that the audience's perception of the moral violations of ambiguous characters plays a negative role in the audience's enjoyment. A total of 186 respondents (M = 15, F = 171), aged 18-25, who watched Korean dramas within a month before the study, filled out an online survey. Simple linear regression analysis shows that perceptions of moral violations by ambiguous characters do not play a significant role in the level of audience enjoyment. However, perceptions of moral violations in the fairness/cheating domain play a significant negative role, with a contribution of 2.5% to the audience's enjoyment.
