Kayu pinus merupakan salah satu komoditi yang diperdagangkam oleh Perum Perhutani sebagai suatu Badan Usaha Milik Negara yang menjadi produsen utama kayu pinus di wilayah Pulau Jawa. Peneli tian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi permintaan kayu pinus dan perkembangan industri pengolahan kayu pinus di Jawa Tengah. Hipotesisnya adalah bahwa permintaan kayu pinus di Jawa Tengah dipengaruhi oleh harga kayu pinus: , harga kayu substitusi (sengon), tingkat suku bunga (kredit), jumlah pabrik/industri kayu pinus, pendapatan per kapita, harga jual kayu pinus olahan di pasar lokal (sawn-timber) , harga jual kayu olahan di pasar ekspor finger joint board) dan nilai tukar rupiah terhadap dollar Amerika. ekspor produk fi.nger joint board. Berdasarkan koefisien elastisitasnya texnyata kayu pinus bersifat tidak elastis. terhadap perubahan harga komoditi tersebut, pendapatan dan harga kayu subsitusi, tapi bersifat elastis terhadap perubahan harga ekspor produk finger joint board. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa permi.ntaan kayu pinus dan jumlah pabrik/industri kayu pinus di Jawa Tengah makin meningkat sejak tahun 1988 sampai dengan 1999. Perkembangan industri pengolahan kayu pinus yeng sedemikian pesat dapat terjadi karena adanya pasar produk kayu olahan yang relatif potensial.

Pine-wood is a comodity that be sold by Perum Perhutani as a government company that located in Java Island. This study has the objectives to examine the factors affecting the demand of pine-wood and to know the progress of wood working industries in Central Java. The hypothesis of this study is that the demand of pine-wood in Central Java was affected by the price of pine-wood, the price of substitution wood (albizia, sp) interest rate (credit), the quantity of pine-wood working industries that operated in Central Java, income, the price of sawn-timber, the price of finger joint board and exchange rate (US$). The demand of pine-wood was analysed using Linear Multiple Regression. The results of this study indicated that the demand of pine-wood was affected by the price of substitution wood, income and the price of finger-joint board. The elasticity index indicated that pine-wood was inelastic with respects to changes in price, income and the price of substitution wood, but it was elastic with respect to change in the price of finger-joint board. The analytical results indicated that the demand of pine-wood and the quantity of wood-working industries in Central Java tend to increase since 1988 unti1 1999. The development of wood-working industries were following the increasing of the potential market of the wood-working products.
