Pengalaman Mahasiswa Rantau dengan Disabilitas Saat Mengikuti Perkuliahan Selama Masa Pandemi COVID-19

Mahasiswa harus bisa beradaptasi selama proses perkuliahan di masa pandemi, namun mahasiswa rantau dengan disabilitas sebagai kelompok rentan menghadapi tantangan perkuliahan yang lebih kompleks di masa pandemi. Eksplorasi pengalaman dan kebutuhan dukungan dari mahasiswa rantau dengan disabilitas belum banyak diteliti, sehingga penelitian ini perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui pengalaman dan kebutuhan mahasiswa rantau dengan disabilitas selama mengikut perkuliahan di masa pandemi. Partisipan penelitian terdiri dari 10 mahasiswa dengan kriteria: mahasiswa rantau dengan disabilitas, terdaftar sebagai mahasiswa di UGM, dan mengalami perkuliahan daring dan/atau bauran di masa pandemi. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan wawancara semi terstruktur dan dianalisis menggunakan teknik analisis tematik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengalaman mahasiswa rantau dengan disabilitas meliputi tantangan dalam perkuliahan di masa pandemi, seperti penggunaan aplikasi, mobilisasi, kendala jaringan, dan diskriminasi. Selain itu kebutuhan mahasiswa rantau dengan disabilitas yang paling diperlukan selama mengikuti perkuliahan di masa pandemi adalah dukungan keluarga dan teman, namun pihak universitas juga diharapkan memberikan dukungan untuk menunjang proses perkuliahan di masa pandemi. Berdasarkan hal tersebut pembentukan Unit Layanan Disabilitas (ULD) dan metode perkuliahan ramah disabilitas dapat dirancang oleh pihak universitas sebagai langkah dalam mewujudkan perkuliahan yang lebih inklusif.
The COVID-19 pandemic affected the education sector in higher education, including the learning process. Students should be able to adapt to the learning process during the pandemic, yet rantau students with disabilities as a vulnerable category in society have to deal with more complex challenges in the pandemic era. There is not much exploration of the experiences and needs of rantau students with disabilities that have not been researched, therefore this study is necessary to discover the experiences and needs of rantau students with disabilities while learning during the pandemic era. Participants of this research consist of 10 students with the following criteria: rantau students with disabilities, registered as a student at UGM, and having experienced online or hybrid learning during the pandemic era. Data were collected using a qualitative method with half-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results showed that the experiences of rantau students with disabilities include the learning challenges of the pandemic, like the use of applications, mobilization, network connectivity issues, and discrimination. Besides that, support from family and friends was the most needed support for rantau students with disabilities while learning during the pandemic era. However, the participants still needed support from the faculty or university to help the learning process during the pandemic era. Based on the results, Unit Layanan Disabilitas (ULD) establishment at the university level and disability-friendly learning method could be designed as an action to actualize a more inclusive learning process.
