Proses Pemanfaatan Electronic Resources Perpustakaan oleh Mahasiswa Bidang Eksakta dan Non-Eksakta Universitas Islam Indonesia

Pesatnya kemajuan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi membuat banyak perubahan di dalam masyarakat. Salah satunya terlihat dari adanya pergeseran pencarian informasi masyarakat dari media cetak ke media digital. Hadirnya electronic resoures sebagai sumber digital di perpustakaan menjadi salah satu solusi dalam mengiringi perubahan tersebut. Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) juga menjadi salah satu perguruan tinggi swasta yang menghadirkan koleksi electronic resources untuk pemustaka mereka khususnya mahasiswa yang datang dari beragam kelompok bidang baik eksakta dan non-eksakta. Namun adanya perbedaan budaya belajar di kalangan mahasiswa tersebut tentu berpengaruh terhadap pencarian informasi mereka dalam memanfaatkan electronic resources perpustakaan. Hal tersebut membuat penulis tertarik untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana perbedaan proses pemanfaatan electronic resources perpustakaan oleh mahasiswa bidang eksakta dan non-eksakta UII serta faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi perbedaan proses tersebut. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus yang terdiri dari beberapa kasus dengan pengambilan sampel yaitu purposive sampling. Kasus terbagi menjadi dua kasus, diambil dari mahasiswa bidang eksakta dan non-eksakta UII dengan masing-masing dua orang sebagai unit kasus. Total unit kasus yang ada berjumlah 8 orang mahasiswa yang terdiri dari mahasiswa bidang eksakta dan non-eksakta UII. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa proses pemanfaatan electronic resources perpustakaan oleh mahasiswa bidang eksakta dan non-eksakta UII memiliki perbedaan dengan proposisi teori Meho dan Tibbo serta faktor-faktor model Wilson. Proses pemanfaatan electronic resources oleh mahasiswa bidang non-eksakta dan non-eksakta UII berdasarkan model Meho dan Tibbo mencakup beberapa tahap yaitu starting, browsing, monitoring, accessing, differentiating, extracting, verifying, networking, dan information managing. Perbedaan yang terlihat bahwa mahasiswa bidang non-eksakta UII lebih mengutamakan sumber yang kredibel karena ditemukan tahap verifying yang dilakukan, sedangkan pada mahasiswa bidang eksakta UII lebih mengutamakan sumber-sumber informasi terbaru karena adanya tahap monitoring yang dilakukan pada masing-masing unit kasus. Adapun faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap perbedaan proses tersebut berdasarkan model Wilson mencakup demografis, peran seseorang, lingkungan dan karakteristik sumber informasi. Temuan di lapangan menunjukkan adanya faktor baru yang berpengaruh terhadap perbedaan proses pemanfaatan e-resources perpustakaan oleh mahasiswa bidang eksakta dan non-eksakta yaitu motivasi, sikap, kebaruan informasi, pengetahuan, dan juga sistem yang digunakan.

The rapid advancement of information and communication technology has made many changes in society. One of them can be seen from the shift in public information search from print media to digital media. The presence of electronic resources as a digital source in libraries is one of the solutions in accompanying these changes. Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) is also one of the private universities that presents a collection of electronic resources for their users, especially students who come from various groups of fields both exact and non-exact. However, the differences in learning culture among these students certainly affect their information search in utilizing library electronic resources. This makes the author interested in revealing how the process of utilizing library electronic resources by UII exact and non-exact students is different and the factors that influence the difference in the process. The method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a case study method consisting of several cases with sampling, namely purposive sampling. The cases are divided into two cases, taken from UII exact and non-exact students with two people each as the case unit. The total number of existing case units is 8 students consisting of UII exact and non-exact field students. The results of this study show that the process of utilizing library electronic resources by students in the exact and non-exact fields has differences with the propositions of Meho and Tibbo theory and wilson's model factors. The process of utilizing electronic resources by UII non-exact and non-exact students based on the Meho and Tibbo models includes several stages, namely starting, browsing, monitoring, accessing, differentiating, extracting, verifying, networking, and information managing. The difference can be seen that UII non-exact field students prioritize credible sources because the verifying stage is found, while in UII exact field students prioritize the latest sources of information because of the monitoring stage carried out in each sub-unit case. The factors that influence the differences in these processes based on Wilson's model include demographics, a person's role, the environment and the characteristics of the source of information. Findings in the field show that there are new factors that influence the difference in the process of utilizing e-resources by students in the exact and non-exact fields, namely motivation, attitudes, novelty of information, knowledge, and also the systems used.
