Penelitian ini membahas mitos pegatan yang dikenal di wilayah Gunung Pegat yaitu, di antara Kecamatan Srengat dan Kecamatan Ponggok, Kabupaten Blitar, Jawa Timur. Mitos tersebut memiliki keterkaitan dengan berdirinya Gunung Pegat dan kehidupan sosial budaya masyarakat sekitar. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui fungsi dan nilai yang terkandung dalam mitos serta maksud dari adanya mitos pegatan. Fungsi dan nilai ini kemudian membentuk perilaku sosial masyarakat di sekitarnya. Pendekatan ekokritik Greg Garrard digunakan untuk mengetahui tentang beragam faktor yang melatarbelakangi terjadinya mitos. Proses analisis dilakukan dengan mengidentifikasikan unsur pollution, wilderness, apocalypse, dwellings, animals, dan earth yang ada pada mitos pegatan berdasarkan ragam sumber daya alam yang ada di Gunung Pegat. Berdasarkan unsur pembentuk tersebut pada akhirnya fungsi dan nilai mitos diketahui. Keberadaan mitos pegatan adalah sarana untuk merevitalisasi lingkungan di sekitar Gunung Pegat agar tidak rusak baik karena manusia atau hal-hal lainnya. Keberadaan mitos membentuk kehiduoan masyarakat karena berbagai larangan masyarakat lebih berhati-hati dan mencoba menjaga kehidupan alam sekitar. Fungsi dan nilai mitos pegatan membentuk kepercayaan yang akhirnya menjadi poin penting dalam kehidupan masyarakat di Gunung Pegat.

This research is relat to the myth of pegatan which is well know in the area around Gunung Pegat location between Srengat District and Ponggok District, Blitar Regency, East Java. The myth of pegatan itself have a connection with the Gumung Pegat existences and the socio-cultural life in the surrounding community. The aims of the research are to find out the functions and values contain in the myth and the true meaning of the myth of pegatan. These functions and values then shape the social behavior of the surrounding community. Ecocriticism approach of Greg Garrard is use to find out about the various factors behind the accourrence of myths. The analysis process is carry out by identifying the pollution, wilderness, apocalypse, dwellings, animals, amd earth elements that exist in the pegatan myth based on the variety of natural resources that exist on Gunung Pegat. Base on these constituent element, the true function and value of the myth will be found. Rhe results of the study show that the existence of the pegatan myth is means to revitalize the environment around Gunung Pegat so it does not get damage either by humans or other things. The existence of myths shape people's lives because various prohibitions make people more careful and try to protect the natural life around them. The functions and values of pegatan forms a belief which eventually becomes an important points in the life of the people on Gunung Pegat.
