The Unfulfillment of Needs and Its Impacts Depicted in Legrand's Some Kind of Happiness

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai kegagalan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan-kebutuhan yang tergambarkan pada Finley Hart sebagai tokoh utama dalam Some Kind of Happiness serta mengenai tipe kebutuhan-kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi tersebut. Penelitian ini dijalankan dengan menggunakan bantuan Teori Hierarki Kebutuhan Dasar milik Abraham Harold Maslow. Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menginvestigasi tipe kebutuhan-kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi yang tergambarkan pada Finley Hart sebagai tokoh utama serta meneliti dampak kebutuhan-kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi pada karakterisasi Finley Hart menggunakan perspektif Maslow. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa teks yang berasal dari buku Some Kind of Happiness karya Claire Legrand, yang berupa: karakter, karakterisasi, serta latar belakang (termasuk tindakan dan percakapan) yang berhubungan dengan tokoh utama yang telah ditentukan. Data yang terkumpul disortir dan dianalisis untuk mencari tipe-tipe kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi serta dampaknya yang tergambarkan pada Finley Hart sebagia tokoh utama. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa Finley Hart tidak mampu memenuhi kelima kebutuhannya dan kebutuhan-kebutuhan yang tidak terpenuhi tersebut mengarah ke depresi serta kecemasan.

This research discusses the failure of fulfilling the needs as depicted in Finley Hart, the main character in Some Kind of Happiness, and thee type of those ungratified needs. This research is conducted by employing Abraham Harold Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theory. It aims to investigate the type of the fulfillment of needs depicted in Finley Hart as the main character and examine the impacts of the needs unfulfilled in Finley Hart's characterization in Maslow's perspective. The data used in this research are taken from Claire Legrand's Some Kind of Happiness in the form of words containing characters, characterizations, and settings (including actions and conversations) related to the main character. The data are sorted and analyzed to find out the type of unfulfillment of needs and its impacts depicted in Finley Hart as the main character. This research finds that Finley Hart cannot satisfy her five needs and her ungratified needs lead to her depression and anxiety.
