BINGKAI BUDAYA POPULER DALAM BERITA FAN ACTIVISM (Analisis Framing Apropriasi Simbol Three Finger Salute dalam Gerakan Politik pada Berita Reuters 2012-2021)

Protes terhadap kudeta yang terjadi di Thailand pada tahun 2014 dan Myanmar pada Tahun 2021, turut membawa simbol three finger salute yang sempat populer melaui film The Hunger Games. Three finger salute yang diambil dari seri The Hunger Games ditulis oleh Suzanne Collins merupakan simbol budaya populer yang paling banyak digunakan dalam gerakan politik belakangan ini. Popularitas simbol tersebut kembali meningkat tidak hanya ketika digunakan dalam aktivisme skala besar seperti kudeta di Thailand dan Myanmar, tetapi juga berkat amplifikasi media yang memberitakan peristiwa-peristiwa tersebut. Salah satu media yang memiliki pengaruh dalam arus informasi internasional yaitu agensi berita Reuters. Penelitian ini fokus melakukan analisis pada berita gerakan politik yang mengapropriasi simbol three finger salute pada Agensi Berita Reuters. Penelitian ini menggunakan model analisis Gamson untuk melihat bingkai berita pada setiap gerakan politik di tahun 2012-2021. Analisis dilakukan terhadap tujuh berita yang berdasarkan tiga peristiwa yaitu kudeta di Thailand pada Tahun 2014, protes di Thailand pada Tahun 2020, dan kudeta di Myanmar pada Tahun 2021. Berdasarkan hasil analisis terhadap seluruh teks berita tersebut, three finger salute digambarkan sebagai simbol pemberontakan dan perlawanan terhadap pemerintahan totaliter dan menuntut untuk mendapatkan demokrasi (pro-demokrasi). Selain itu juga ditemukan bingkai three finger salute dan The Hunger Games, bingkai three finger salute sebagai simbol penghormatan, dan bingkai three finger salute sebagai simbol kebebasan.

Protests against the coups that took place in Thailand in 2014 and Myanmar in 2021 also carried the three finger salute symbol which was popular in the film The Hunger Games. The three finger salute, taken from The Hunger Games series written by Suzanne Collins, is a popular cultural symbol that is most widely used in recent political movements. The symbol's popularity has increased again not only when used in large-scale activism such as the coups in Thailand and Myanmar, but also thanks to the amplification of the media reporting on these events. One of the media that influences the flow of international information that amplify three this events is the Reuters news agency. This study focuses on analyzing the news of political movements that appropriate the three finger salute symbol on the Reuters News Agency. This study uses Gamson's analytical model to analyze the news frame for each political movement from 2012 until 2021. The analysis was conducted on seven news stories based on three events, namely the 2014 Thailand coup, the 2020 Thailand protest, and the 2021 Myanmar coup. Based on the results of the analysis of the entire text of the news, the three finger salute is described as a symbol of rebellion and resistance against totalitarian government and demands for democracy (pro-democracy). In addition, the frame of three finger salute and The Hunger Games, the three finger salute frame as a symbol of respect, and the three finger salute frame as a symbol of freedom were also found.
