Jalur komando dan informasi di lingkungan Akademi Tentara Nasional Indonesia (TNI), institusi pendidikan calon perwira TNI, sering terkendala faktor kecepatan dan ketepatan penyampaian informasi antar instansi. Kedua hal tersebut merupakan syarat penting dalam mendukung kebutuhan layanan informasi pengambilan keputusan bagi pimpinan, baik di tingkat pusat maupun di tingkat akademi. Teknik konvensional pada sistem informasi yang digunakan saat ini, menggunakan jalur telepon dan telegram, amat tergantung jam operasional dan jalur komunikasi yang dipakai sehingga mempengaruhi efektifitas dan efisiensi proses pertukaran datanya. Diperlukan kiranya solusi pengembangan jaringan aplikasi yang sesuai dengan perkembangan teknologi informasi tanpa membuang sistem aplikasi yang lama. Penelitian ini mengimplementasikan teknologi bahasa markup Extensible Markup Language (XML) pada pengembangan sistim informasi di lingkungan Akademi TNI (Tentara Nasional Indonesia). XML adalah sebuah subset dari SGML (Structured Generalized Markup Language) yang hanya berisi sintaks dengan kerangka polos dan dirancang khusus untuk penyampaian informasi melalui world wide web. Komponen transformasi data XML ditempatkan pada aplikasi client, sedangkan komponen server dan aturan-aturan logika bahasa bertugas untuk menangani proses transaksi data secara otomatis. Metoda ini memungkinkan proses transaksi dilaksanakan tanpa harus mengganti ragam aplikasi browser yang sudah ada di setiap client. Hal ini memberikan alternatif solusi untuk peningkatan efisiensi biaya dan waktu pengembangan aplikasi serta efektifitas sistem sehingga menjadi metoda yang sangat tepat diimplementasikan dalam sistem yang cenderung mengalami perkembangan aplikasi, sebagaimana pada sistem informasi di lingkungan Akademi TNI.

The link of information and commands involved in the Indonesian Armed Force Academy (IAA) were pursued by the accuracy and the amount of time on data exchange itself. Those are the most compatible reasons to support leader’s insight of either the headquarter-based or the academy-based. The conventional methods in the IAA’s information system which are carried out by telegram and telephone lines, obviously, depends on working- hours and the traffic- lines. They make a great deal effects of efficiency and effectivity in data exchange processing. There is a requisites of network development due to trend of technologies and demands without putting away the existing applications used. The present study aims to implement the Extensible Markup Language (XML) technologies for improving the IAA’s information system’s development. XML is subset of structured generalized markup language (SGML) which contains only plain sketch and designed for information serving through world wide web as hypertext markup language (HTML), the standard markup language used for web page since the web emerged. The component and business logic language are positioned on the client application for converting the XML document due to automatically transaction processing which was accomplished in server application. This allows the transaction processing tasks to be done with no-replacement of the existing browser application which makes the m more efficiency on cost and time of system reducing as well. The manner discussed here is well suited to be implementated for a system that tends to experience continous development applications, such as the web-based integrated information system of The Indonesian Armed Force Academy.
