Noughts & Crosses karya Malorie Blackman menceritakan tentang dua orang teman dengan jenis kelamin dan kelas sosial yang berbeda yang berjuang untuk bersatu dan menyatukan masyarakat yang tidak setara di dunia rasisme terbalik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meneliti tentang jenis interaksi sosial yang terjadi diantara kelas atas dan bawah, serta perjuangan kelas bawah dalam mencapai kesetaraan kelas sosial. Untuk menganalisisnya, penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi untuk literatur dengan teori interaksi sosial dari Georg Simmel dan konsep-konsep perjuangan kelas dari Karl Marx. Metode yang diaplikasikan adalah studi pustaka. Novel Noughts & Crosses menjadi data primer sedangkan buku, jurnal, artikel, dan sumber tertulis lainnya menjadi data sekunder. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa interaksi sosial yang terjadi diantara dan di dalam dua kelas tersebut diklasifikasikan menjadi lima bentuk yaitu superordinasi dan subordinasi, pertukaran, konflik, prostitusi, sosiabilitas, dan enam tipe diantaranya orang kikir, pemboros, orang asing, petualang, bangsawan, orang miskin. Hasilnya juga menyatakan bahwa noughts berjuang mencapai kesetaraan secara individu dan kelompok, namun Crosses yang lebih berkuasa berusaha mempertahankan sistem yang sudah ada di masyarakat. Hal ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa, pertama, pengelompokan bentuk interaksi sosial didasarkan pada interaksi kedua kelas sedangkan pengelompokan tipe interaksi sosial didasarkan pada anggota yang berinteraksi. Kedua, meskipun perjuangan noughts yang keras ditambah dengan bantuan dari beberapa anggota Crosses, masyarakat yang setara dan tanpa kelas masih jauh untuk bisa tercapai.

Noughts & Crosses by Malorie Blackman tells the story of two friends from different genders and classes who struggle to unite themselves and the unequal society in their reverse racism world. This research aims to study the kinds of social interaction that occurred between the upper and lower classes, and the struggle of the lower class to achieve equality in society. To analyze them, this research uses a sociological approach to literature with the theory of social interaction by Georg Simmel and the concepts of class struggle by Karl Marx. The method that was applied in this research is library research. The novel Noughts & Crosses became the primary data while books, journals, and other written sources were the secondary data. The results showed that the social interaction occurred between and within the two classes were classified into five forms which were superordination and subordination, exchange, conflict, prostitution, sociability, and six types which were the miser, the spendthrift, the stranger, the adventurer, the nobility, the poor. It also appeared that the noughts struggled to achieve equality individually and collectively, but the more powerful Crosses tried to maintain the current system in society. It is concluded that, first, the five forms classification is based on the interaction of the two classes while the six types classification is based on the members who interact. Second, despite the hard struggle of the noughts with the support from several members of the Crosses, the equal and classless society is still far from being achieved.
