Narrative Review: Evaluasi Sifat Fisik dan Stabilitas Formula Sediaan Kosmetik Ekstrak Pepaya (Carica papaya L.)

Kosmetik bahan alam dalam beberapa tahun terakhir mulai meningkat penggunaannya. Pepaya (Carica papaya L.) sangat cocok jika diformulasikan dalam bentuk sediaan kosmetik karena kaya akan kandungan kimia, salah satunya adalah flavonoid yang memiliki aktivitas biologis sebagai antioksidan, tabir surya, dan antijerawat. Review ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi formulasi sediaan kosmetik dari ekstrak pepaya serta hasil uji stabilitas dan sifat fisik dari sediaan kosmetik tersebut. Metode yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah narrative review menggunakan data yang berasal dari literatur. Pencarian literatur sesuai kata kunci dilakukan melalui database DOAJ, Scopus, Google Scholar, dan Pubmed dengan kriteria berupa original article yang dimuat di jurnal nasional maupun internasional dari tahun 2011 hingga saat ini. Artikel yang diperoleh kemudian diidentifikasi, diseleksi, dan direview menjadi satu kesatuan. Hasil review menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak pepaya (Carica papaya L.) memiliki aktivitas tabir surya, antioksidan, dan antijerawat yang dapat diformulasikan ke dalam bentuk sediaan kosmetik topikal dengan beberapa penyesuaian dalam formulasi untuk menghasilkan bentuk sediaan yang lebih stabil dan optimal. Formulasi yang efektif bagi ekstrak pepaya sebagai tabir surya, antioksidan, dan antijerawat adalah gel karena memiliki hasil uji sifat fisik dan stabilitas yang optimal. Sifat fisik dan stabilitas dari sediaan kosmetik topikal yang diformulasikan dipengaruhi oleh beberapa hal yaitu pencampuran, pengadukan, pemilihan eksipien, proporsi fase terdispersi, konsentrasi ekstrak dan eksipien, penambahan senyawa pendukung, dan suhu selama penyimpanan.

Natural cosmetic products in recent years have begun to increase in their use. Papaya (Carica papaya L.) is very suitable if it is formulated in cosmetic dosage form because it is rich in chemical content, one of which is flavonoid which has biological activity as an antioxidant, sunscreen, and anti-acne. This review aims to evaluate the formulation of cosmetic preparations from papaya extract as well as the results of stability tests and physical properties of these cosmetic preparations. The method used for this research is a narrative review using data from the literature. Literature searches according to keywords were carried out through the DOAJ, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Pubmed databases with criteria in the form of original articles published in national and international journals from 2011 to the present. The articles obtained are then identified, selected, and reviewed as a single unit. The results of the review showed that papaya extract (Carica papaya L.) has sunscreen, antioxidant, and anti acne activity which can be formulated into topical cosmetic dosage forms with several adjustments in the formulation to produce a more stable and optimal dosage form. The effective formulation for papaya extract as sunscreen, antioxidant, and anti-acne is gel because it has optimal physical properties and stability test results. Physical properties and stability of formulated cosmetic preparations are influenced by several things, namely mixing, stirring, selection of excipients, proportion of dispersed phase, concentration of extracts and excipients, addition of supporting compounds, and temperature during storage.
