Nilai-nilai Tradisional Komunitas Kelas Pekerja di Australia dalam The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley (Who Planned to Live an Unusual Life)

The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley (Who Planned to Live an Unusual Life) adalah novel anak-anak dari Australia. Tidak hanya merupakan bacaan yang menghibur, namun novel ini juga mengandung nilai-nilai tradisional komunitas kelas pekerja di Australia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologi oleh Wellek dan Warren juga digunakan untuk menjelaskan beberapa cara berbeda yang digunakan untuk menggambarkan nilai-nilai tradisional komunitas kelas pekerja di Australia di dalam novel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bagaimana gambaran kehidupan sosial dari komunitas kelas pekerja di Australia ditampilkan pada tokoh melalui perbedaan latar belakang etnis, profesi kelas pekerja, pandangan politik, dan kesulitan yang dihadapi. Nilai-nilai tradisional komunitas kelas pekerja di Australia ditunjukkan dalam kolektivisme, solidaritas khususnya saling membantu dan adanya semangat komunitas serta keberlanjutan diri.

The Slightly True Story of Cedar B. Hartley (Who Planned to Live an Unusual Life) is a light-hearted Australian children’s novel that serves as an entertaining read for the audience. However, when further observed the novel also contains the depiction of traditional values held by the Australian working class community. In order to examine the phenomenon, this research utilizes the sociology approach suggested by Wellek and Warren. This approach is employed to explain the different ways in which the traditional values of the Australian working class community are being presented in the novel. The results present how the social life of the working class community in Australia is portrayed through the diversity of the characters' ethnicity background, their working class profession, political view, and struggle. Furthermore, the traditional values of the working class community are shown in the novel through the existence of collectivism, solidarity specifically in mutual-aid and community spirit and self-sustainability.
