Pengaruh Minyak Atsiri Terhadap Aktivitas Antioksidan dan Efektivitas SPF Pada Formulasi Suncreen : Narrative Review

Sinar Ultraviolet (UV) dari matahari memiliki beberapa menfaat yang menguntungkan salah satunya membantu sintesis vitamin D. Paparan sinar UV yang terlalu lama ternyata dapat menyebabkan berbagai masalah kulit seperti eritema dan efek kronisnya bisa menimbulkan risiko kanker kulit. Radiasi sinar UV juga dapat menimbulkan radikal bebas yang membawa efek negatif pada kulit. Penggunaan sunscreen menjadi salah satu upaya dalam mencegah timbulnya permasalahan tersebut. Penilaian terhadap efektivitas sunscreen dapat dilihat melalui nilai SPF. Tujuan review ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh minyak atsiri terhadap efektivitas SPF dan aktivitas antioksidan pada formulasi sunscreen. Metode review yang digunakan adalah narrative review menggunakan literatur yang berasal dari database Scopus, PubMed, Sciencedirect dan Google Scholar. Artikel diseleksi berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dan ekslusinya yang kemudian di dapat 56 artikel dan dilakukan review. Hasil review menunjukan bahwa minyak atsiri memiliki kandungan senyawa sebagai photoprotective agent dan antioksidan yang mampu meningkatkan kemampuan pada formulasi sunscreen. Penambahan minyak atsiri memberikan nilai SPF dan aktivitas antioksidan lebih baik dibanding formulasi tanpa minyak atsiri. Penelitian masih perlu dikembangkan untuk mengetahui toksisitas, keamanan dan formulasi yang paling optimal.

Ultraviolet (UV) rays from sunlight has several beneficial benefits, one of them is helping synthesis of vitamin D. However, prolonged exposure of UV radiation could cause various skin problem such as erythema and other chronic effects can increase the risk of skin cancer. Ultraviolet radiation can generate free radical that have negative effect to the skin. Using sunscreen become one of the solutions to prevent these problems. SPF become one of the parameters determine the effectiveness of sunscreen. The aim og ther reciew are to determine the effects of essential oils on antioxidant activity and effectiveness of SPF in sunscreen formulations. The review method used is a narrative review using literature from database Scopis, PubMed, Sciencedirect and Google Scholar. Articles were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, then 56 articles obtained and the review were conducted. The results show, essential oils contain photoprotective and antioxidant compound that can increase the effectiveness of sunscreen. The addition of essential oils gave a better SPF value and antioxidant activity than the formulation without essential oils. Reserach still need to be developed to determenine toxicity, safety and optimal formulation.
