Meanings and Significances of Symbols Related to the Materialism in Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's

Penelitian ini membahas topik simbol materialisme dalam novel Breakfast at Tiffany's karya Truman Capote. Interpretasi simbol tersebut dapat digunakan untuk mengetahui makna di balik novel Breakfast at Tiffany's karya Truman Capote. Simbol materialisme di dalam Breakfast at Tiffany's ini mengisahkan impian yang dijalani oleh Holly Golightly. Novel ini ditampilkan sebagai semangat Holly Golightly untuyak mengejar mimpinya di New York. Materialisme semacam ini muncul dalam berbagai jenis aspek dalam novel tersebut. Hasil interpretasi yang ada di dalam novel tersebut adalah: 1) toko perhiasan Tiffany sebagai simbol kecemasan Holly; 2) Tiffany sebagai simbol cita-cita Holly Golightly tentang kehidupan yang aman; 3) $50 di kamar rias sebagai simbol hubungan Holly dengan laki-laki materialistis; 4) New York sebagai simbol mimpi Holly dalam hidup; dan 5) Penamaan kucing Holly sebagai argumen negasi dari nilai materialistis. This research discusses the topic of materialism symbol in Breakfast at Tiffany's novel by Truman Capote. The interpretation of the symbol can be used to know the meaning behind Breakfast at Tiffany's novel by Truman Capote. The objective of this research is to interpret the symbol of materialism in Breakfast at Tiffany's. The materialistic symbol, as the story of Holly Golightly goes, is presented in the novel. This novel is shown as a spirit of Holly Golightly to chase his dream in New York. This kind of materialism appears in any kind of aspect in this novel. The result of the interpretations, are: 1) Tiffany's jewelry shop as the symbol for Holly's anxiety; 2) Tiffany's as a symbol of Holly Golightly's ideals of a secure life; 3) The $50 for the powder room as a symbol of Holly's relationship with wealthy men; 4) New York as a symbol of Holly's dream in life, and 5) The naming of Holly's cat as a counter-argument of materialistic value.
