Promises Strategies Used in The Movie Romeo & Juliet

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui strategi tindak tutur berjanji yang digunakan dalam film berjudul Romeo&Juliet. Analisis dari penelitian ini didasarkan pada dua jenis tindak tutur berjanji yaitu berjanji langsung dan berjanji tidak langsung. Tuturan tersebut diidentifikasikan oleh felicity condition dan konteks khususnya verba performatif promise yang menunjukkan kesenjangan antara kedua jenis berjanji tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berjanji tidak langsung paling banyak digunakan dalam film dengan total 51 kejadian (92,7%). Strategi ini kemungkinan besar digunakan oleh karakter untuk membuat ucapan menjadi lebih lembut dan alami. Di sisi lain, terdapat 4 strategi berjanji secara langsung (7,3%). Terdapat indikasi khusus bahwa suatu ujaran dianggap sebagai strategi berjanji misanya dengan penggunaan verba performatif "promise" atau verba modal "will" sedangkan konteksnya lebih memberi petunjuk tentang makna ujaran kepada pendengar.

This research aims to investigate the promising strategy used in a movie entitled Romeo&Juliet. The analyses are based on two types of promise that are the direct promise and indirect promise. The utterances are identified by the felicity condition of promises and context particularly the performative verb "promise" that shows a contrast between the two promises. The result of this research shows that indirect promise is mostly used in the movie with a total of 51 occurrences (92.7). It is most likely used by the characters to make the utterance becomes more tender and natural. On the other hand, the direct promise has 4 total number of occurrences (7.3%). There are specific indications that an utterance is considered a promise such as the use of the performative verb "promise" or modal verb "will" while the context gives more clues to the meaning of utterance to the hearer.
