2003 | Skripsi | S1 KEHUTANANTeak is the one ofthe most economically important tropical timber species. A vegetative propagation method by using stem cutting has been practiced in Indonesia to improve the productivity ofteak plantation. Acarina (mite) is the most destructive pest ofteak stem cutting. The research was aimed at knowing the effect ofwatering and light intensity on the Acarina attact intensity, mortality ofcutting and the growth ofcutting. The research was done in factorial experiment arrange in RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) with three replications. The treatments consisted oftwo factors namely light intensity (3 levels) and watering frequency (4 levels). A sampling unit consisted of 45 cuttings put in three plastic boxes. Ten individuals ofAcarina were infested on teak cutting in each plastic box. The number ofcutting attacted by mite, the mortality ofthe cutting was observed weekly and the dry weight ofcutting was determined at the end ofexperiment. The result showed that watering and light intensity had no effects on Acarina attact intensity, except in the first week. In the first week, the higher the light intensity, the higher the Acarina attact intensity. In the second week, the new generation ofAcarina may be born and grow well in all treatments. The mortality and the growth ofteak cutting was not affected by the treatments.
