Winston Groom's Expression of American Dream in The Main Character of His Novel Forrest Gump

Penelitian ini berfokus pada diskusi tentang topik American Dream dan signifikansi karakter sebagai ekspresi dari pemikiran seorang penulis, khususnya pada novel Forrest Gump karya Winston Groom. Penelitian ini membahas mengenai topik American Dream dan dianalisis menggunakan pendekatan ekspresif sebagai landasan teori dasar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap esensi American Dream yang terkait dengan Winston Groom sebagai penulis novel Forrest Gump. Ide pemikiran American Dream yang digambarkan oleh Winston Groom digunakan sebagai matriks untuk penelitian. Intisari dari American Dream tersebut kemudian dituangkan ke dalam bentuk karakter Forrest Gump sebagai manifestasi buah pikiran dari sang penulis. Tujuan dari peneliti adalah untuk menganalisa ide dari American Dream oleh Winston Groom yang diekspresikan ke dalam karakter Forrest Gump. Data yang digunakan di dalam penelitian ini diambil dari buku novel Forrest Gump, ditulis oleh Winston Groom yang dibuat dengan gaya penulisan dialog dan naratif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat signifikansi di dalam Winston Groom sebagai penulis dengan cerita Forrest Gump yang dikarangnya. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan ide-ide American Dream yang dimiliki oleh Winston Groom tertuang dalam novel Forrest Gump. Hasil penelitian selanjutnya adalah elemen kunci di dalam karakter Forrest Gump sebagai cara untuk mengekspresikan ide American Dream di dalam pemikiran Winston Groom.

This research discusses the topic of American Dream and character significance as an expression of the author's state of mind in Winston Groom's Forrest Gump. The research is conducted with the topic of the American Dream and analyzed within an expressive approach as a theoretical framework. The objective of this research is to reveal the essence of the American Dream from the views from its author. The idea of the American Dream of its author Winston Groom is used as the matrix for this research. The American Dream spirit conveyed by Winston Groom is being depicted within the character Forrest Gump as a manifestation of the author's idea. The researcher's task is to analyze the idea of the American Dream from Winston Groom expressed in the character of Forrest Gump. The data used in this research is taken from the book Forrest Gump written by Winston Groom in the form of the main character's dialogues and narratives of the story. Afterward, the data being analyzed into two parts; the researcher discusses the significance of an author Winston Groom with his character Forrest Gump which he created to interpret his idea of the American Dream using expression theory, and finally analyze the character Forrest Gump key elements on how he reaches his dream and his role to express the idea of the American Dream by the author Winston Groom.
