DPD RI merupakan lembaga perwakilan yang dibentuk pasca tumbangnya rezim orde baru. Pembentukan DPD RI bertujuan untuk membantu menyampaikan aspirasi masyarakat daerah ke skala nasional yang selama rezim orde baru dibungkam. Penelitian ini ingin melihat lebih lanjut praktik pelaksanaan representasi dalam Dewan Perwakilan Daerah Republik Indonesia terutama di DIY pada periode 2014-2019. Penelitian ini juga dilakukan untuk mengidentifikasi model-model representasi yang diterapkan oleh keempat anggota DPD RI di DIY periode 2014-2019. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dikerangkai menggunakan teori representasi dari Pitkin. Pada akhirnya ingin melihat sejauh mana koordinasi antara keempat wakil DPD dalam mengelola aspirasi dari rakyat yang masuk ke DPD dan memperjuangkannya kedalam dalam tataran politik nasional. Ada empat wakil yang menjadi subjek utama peneltian yaitu GKR Hemas, Afnan Hadikusumo, Hafidh Asrom dan Cholid Mahmud. Model representasi yang dianut oleh keempat wakil berbeda-beda. Namun ada beberapa hal yang membentuk model representasi yang dianut oleh wakil diantaranya adalah latar belakang organisasi, latar belakang pendidikan serta karirnya dalam dunia politik.

DPD RI is a representative institution that was formed after the fall of the New Order regime. The establishment of the DPD RI aims to help convey the aspirations of local people to a national scale which was silenced during the New Order regime. This study wants to see further the practice of implementing representation in the Regional Representatives Council of the Republic of Indonesia, especially in DIY in the 2014-2019 period. This study was also conducted to identify the representation models applied by the four members of the DPD RI in DIY for the 2014-2019 period. This research is a qualitative descriptive research framed using Pitkin's representation theory. In the end, I want to see how far the coordination between the four DPD representatives is in managing the aspirations of the people who enter the DPD and fight for them at the national political level. There are four representatives who are the main subjects of research, namely GKR Hemas, Afnan Hadikusumo, Hafidh Asrom and Cholid Mahmud. The representation model adopted by the four representatives is different. However, there are several things that make up the representation model adopted by the representatives, including organizational background, educational background and career in politics.
