Welfare Capitalism: Pelayanan Kesehatan di Pabrik Gula Djatiroto, 1905-1942

Tesis ini membahas tentang pelayanan kesehatan di pabrik gula Djatiroto oleh perusahaan Handelsvereeniging Amsterdam (HVA) pada tahun 1905-1942. Tujuannya untuk menganalisis peran perusahaan dalam penyelenggaraan kesejahteraan masyarakat kolonial, khususnya dalam bidang kesehatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode sejarah. Tahap-tahap yang harus dilalui adalah pemilihan topik, pengumpulan sumber, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tujuan utama HVA menyelenggarakan pelayanan kesehatan di pabrik gula Djatiroto adalah untuk kepentingan profit perusahaan. Menghadapi pekerja bebas dan keterbatasan negara dalam menyediakan pelayanan kesehatan masyarakat, menjadikan perusahaan harus melakukan upaya lebih untuk menjaga ketersediaan tenaga kerjanya. Turut serta dalam meningkatkan kesejahteraan dengan kepedulian sosial berupa pelayanan kesehatan merupakan cara meningkatkan hubungan pekerja dengan perusahaan, menunjukkan rasa humanis perusahaan, dan kontrol terhadap pekerja.

This thesis discusses health services in the Djatiroto sugar factory by the Handelsvereeniging Amsterdam (HVA) company in 1905-1942. The aim is to analyze the role of companies in the welfare of indigenous people, especially in the health sector. The method used in this research is the historical method. The stages that must be passed are topic selection, source collection, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the main purpose of HVA in providing health services at the Djatiroto sugar factory is for the company's profit. Facing free workers and the limitations of the state in providing public health services, companies must make more efforts to maintain the availability of their workforce. Participating in improving welfare with social care in the form of health services is a way to improve employee relations with the company, show the company's sense of humanity, and control workers.
