TRANSLATION STRATEGY OF COHESION ON MAHER ZAIN SONG LYRICS IN TWO-LANGUAGE VERSIONS (ENGLISH AND INDONESIAN)

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui strategi penerjemahan penanda kohesi dalam lirik lagu Maher Zain yang memiliki dua versi bahasa (Inggris dan Indonesian). Sumber data berasal dari tiga buah lagu Maher Zain yang berjudul For the Rest of My Life, I Love You so, Guide Me All the Way (Bahasa Sumber) dan Sepanjang Hidup, Ku Milik-Mu, Tuntunku Kepada-Mu (Bahasa Sasaran). Data yang digunakan adalah penanda kohesi pada lirik lagu. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penerjemahan menurut Sudaryanto dan Mastoyo, dan studi literatur tentang teori kohesi menurut Halliday dan Hasan serta strategi penerjemahan menurut Baker. Hasil penelitian diperoleh bahwa terdapat 325 kohesi pada bahasa sumber dan 190 kohesi pada bahasa sasaran yang ditemukan pada sumber data. Kohesi tersebut meliputi kohesi gramatikal dan kohesi leksikal. Kohesi gramatikal terdiri dari referensi, substitusi, elipsis, dan konjungsi, sedangkan kohesi leksikal terdiri dari reiterasi (repetisi, sinonim atau hampir sinonim, dan superordinat), dan kolokasi. Selain itu, strategi penerjemahan kohesi gramatikal yang sering terjadi adalah penerjemahan omisi. Sebaliknya, strategi penerjemahan kohesi leksikal yang sering terjadi adalah parafrase menggunakan terjemahan kata-kata terkait. Dengan demikian, kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat dua jenis kohesi dan strategi penerjemahan kohesi yang ditemukan dalam lirik lagu Maher Zain yang memiliki dua versi bahasa.

The purpose of this study is to determine the translation strategy of cohesion markers in Maher Zain's song lyrics which have two-language versions (English and Indonesian). The data source is derived from three songs by Maher Zain entitled For the Rest of My Life, I Love You so, Guide Me All the Way (Source Language) and Sepanjang Hidup, Ku Milik-Mu, Tuntunku Kepada-Mu (Target Language). The data used are the cohesion markers of the song lyrics. The methods used in this study are translation methods by Sudaryanto and Mastoyo, and literature studies about theory of cohesion according to Halliday and Hasan and translation strategy according to Baker. The result obtained that there are 325 cohesions in SL and 190 cohesion in TL found in the data source. The cohesions of these data include grammatical cohesion and lexical cohesion. Grammatical cohesion consists of reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction, while lexical cohesion consists of reiteration (repetition, synonym or near-synonym, and superordinate), and collocation. Besides, the translation strategy of grammatical cohesion that often occurs is an omission translation. In contrast, the translation strategy of lexical cohesion that often occurs is the paraphrasing using the related words translation. Thus, the conclusions of this study are that there are two types of cohesions and the translation strategy of cohesion found in the Maher Zain song lyrics which have two-language versions.
