Peristiwa kudeta yang terjadi pada dini hari 1 Oktober 1965 yang diduga dilakukan oleh PKI telah mengakibatkan penindasan besar-besaran terhadap ideologi kiri dan simpatisannya. Kelompok-kelompok yang dianggap terlibat dalam penyemaian ideologi komunisme menjadi sasaran pembantaian massal dan pemenjaraan. Di antara orang-orang yang menjadi korban, Hersri Setiawan, seorang penulis dan aktivis budaya, juga terseret ke dalamnya. Dia dan rekan-rekannya merasakan bagaimana kemanusiaan direnggut saat tinggal di kamp interniran Buru dan menjadikan mereka Homo Sacer. Namun dalam kondisi terburuk sekalipun, harapan dan solidaritas masih bisa tumbuh sebagai bukti bahwa sifat subjek tidak bisa dimatikan begitu saja. Refleksi kisah Hidup Hersri menjadi sebuah penghantar untuk memahami lebih dekat untuk memahami lebih dekat perjuangan hidup para penyintas 65' dalam menghadapi represivitas rezim Orde Baru.

The coup incident that occurred in the early hours of October 1, 1965, which was allegedly carried out by the PKI had resulted in massive suppression of leftist ideologies and their sympathizers. Groups deemed involved in sowing the ideology of communism were subjected to mass massacres and imprisonment. Among the victims, Hersri Setiawan, a writer and cultural activist, was also dragged into it. He and his colleagues experienced how humanity was snatched away while living in Buru's internment camp and made them Homo Sacers. But even in the worst conditions, hope and solidarity can still grow as evidence that the nature of the subject cannot be turned off just like that. The reflection of Hersri's life story serves as a guide for a closer understanding of the life struggle of the 65' survivors in the face of the repression of the New Order regime.
