METODE DAN ORIENTASI PENERJEMAHAN METAFORA DARI BAHASA INGGRIS KE DALAM BAHASA INDONESIA DALAM NOVEL PETER PAN KARYA J.M. BARRIE

Dalam melakukan proses penerjemahan, penerjemah mengaplikasikan metode penerjemahan yang hasilnya tak dapat terlepas dari sebuah orientasi, baik lebih mengarah pada bahasa sumber atau bahasa sasaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap implikasi dari penerapan metode penerjemahan yang berorientasi pada bahasa tertentu. Untuk dapat mencapai tujuan penelitian, peneliti menganalisis penerjemahan pada ungkapan metafora dengan menggunakan teori tentang jenis-jenis metafora oleh Ullman, teori tentang metode dan orientasi penerjemahan oleh Newmark, serta teori tentang ideologi penerjemahan oleh Venuti. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan ungkapan metafora berbentuk kata, frasa, dan klausa yang terdapat dalam novel berbahasa Inggris berjudul Peter Pan karya J.M. Barrie dan novel terjemahan berbahasa Indonesianya oleh Julanda Tantani. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif komparatif. Data-data yang ditemukan tersebut dikategorikan jenis metaforanya, dianalisis metode penerjemahan dan orientasi penerjemahannya, serta dideskripsikan implikasi penerjemahannya. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, peneliti menemukan 180 data ungkapan metafora dengan jenis metafora terbanyak adalah metafora antropomorfik. Selain itu, metode penerjemahan yang paling sering digunakan penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan ungkapan metafora tersebut adalah metode penerjemahan yang berorientasi pada bahasa sumber yaitu sebesar 56% dengan rincian metode penerjemahan harfiah sebesar 32%, metode penerjemahan kata per kata sebesar 11%, metode penerjemahan setia sebesar 10%, dan metode penerjemahan semantis sebesar 3%. Kecenderungan penerapan metode-metode penerjemahan tersebut berimplikasi pada orientasi penerjemahan yang lebih condong ke bahasa sumber dan berideologi penerjemahan foreinisasi. Oleh karena itu, pembaca sasaran dapat mempelajari ungkapan yang terdapat dalam bahasa sumber dan merasakan eksotisme teks sumber sebagai pengalaman pembelajaran lintas budaya.

In a translation process, a translator uses translation methods which the result cannot be separated from an orientation, whether it is more directed at the source language or the target language. This study aims to reveal the implication of applying translation methods which are oriented towards a particular language. In order to get the purposes of this study, the researcher analyzed the translation of metaphorical expressions using the theory of the types of metaphors by Ullman, the theory of translation methods and its orientation by Newmark, and the theory of translation ideology by Venuti. The data used in this study are metaphorical expressions in the form of word, phrase, and clause which are found in the English novel entitled Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie and in its Indonesian translated novel by Julanda Tantani. This study uses descriptive comparative approach. The data found were categorized by the types of metaphors, were analyzed their translation method and the orientation of the translation, and were described their implication of the translation. Based on the result of the analysis, there are 180 data of metaphorical expressions found with the most types of metaphors is anthropomorphic metaphors. Besides, the most translation methods used by the translator in translating the metaphorical expressions are the methods which are oriented toward the source language which get 56% with details of the literal translation method by 32%, word for word translation method by 11%, faithful translation method by 10%, and semantic translation method by 3%. The tendency to apply these translation methods has implication for the orientation of translation toward the source language and foreignization translation ideology. Therefore, target readers will be able to learn the new metaphorical expressions from the source language and feel the exoticism of the source text as a cross-cultural learning experience.
