NOVEL IMPIAN AMERIKA KARYA KUNTOWIJOYO SEBAGAI KRITIK TERHADAP SINGULARITAS DAN KOMUNITAS INOPERATIF

Dengan mengambil latar Amerika, novel Impian Amerika karya Kuntowijoyo mencoba memperlihatkan subjek-subjek, yang adalah orang Indonesia, dalam kondisi di bawah kuasa kapitalisme. Keberadaan wacana impian Amerika, yang memanipulasi subjek agar berani mencoba peruntungannya dengan merantau jauh ke Amerika, menjadi suatu jebakan kepada subjek yang akhirnya menempatkan subjek pada kondisi rentan. Kendati subjek berada dalam posisi tersebut, Impian Amerika mencoba menempatkan subjek pada bentuk komunitas yang merawat singularitas subjek. Akan tetapi, penulisan komunitas dan singularitas dalam novel pada dasarnya adalah bentuk kritik pengarang terhadap konsep tersebut. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) menjabarkan temuan kritik terkait kondisi subjek dalam kuasa biopower; (2) menuliskan bentuk komunitas inoperatif yang ditemukan sebagai upaya memberdayakan singularitas; (3) menjabarkan bentuk kritik terhadap konsep komunitas inoperatif dan singularitas. Temuan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kondisi subjek ditemukan mudah dieksploitasi serta dialienasi dalam kuasa biopower. Subjek-subjek juga berupaya untuk diseragamkan melalui partisi-partisi yang dipasangkan sehingga memudahkan kontrol kapitalisme. Subjek dengan identitas pekerja adalah satu upaya penyeragaman. Kondisi rentan tereksploitasi dan teralienasi tersebut lantas membuat subjek berkomunitas agar menghidupi esensi kehidupannya. Komunitas-komunitas ini adalah komunitas berbasis kasih sayang: komunitas keluarga; berbasis persaudaraan: komunitas persaudaraan, komunitas senasib-sepenanggungan, komunitas migran; dan komunitas silih-berbagi. Dari komunitas yang ditemukan ini, Kuntowijoyo menggambarkan kritiknya bahwa komunitas demikian cukup utopis untuk terwujud karena penggambarannya dalam ruang sempit dan sifatnya sporadis. Alasan penulisannya dalam Impian Amerika menunjukkan kemungkinan keterwujudannya hanya dalam dunia fiksi. Sebagai tawaran, Kuntowijoyo menjelaskan bahwa komunitas demikian lebih memungkinkan dalam balutan etika profetik.

Kuntowijoyo's novel Impian Amerika tries to show that subjects, who are Indonesians living in America, are under the power of capitalism. The existence of the American dream discourse, which manipulates the subject to dare to try his luck by migrating far to America, becomes a trap to the subject which eventually forces the subject to be in a vulnerable condition. Even though the subject is in this condition, the American Dream tries to place the subject in a community form that nurtures the subject's singularity. However, community and singularities writing in novels are a form of Kuntowijoyo's criticism of the concept. Therefore, this study aims to: (1) describe the critical findings related to the subject's condition in the power of the biopower; (2) write down the forms of inoperative community found as an effort to empower the singularity; (3) describe the form of criticism of the concept of inoperative community and singularity. The findings of this study indicate that the condition of the subject is found to be easily exploited and alienated under the power of the biopower. Subjects also seek to be uniform through the partitions that are paired to facilitate the control of capitalism. Subjects are given the identity of workers to uniform them. This condition of being vulnerable to exploitation and alienation then makes the subject come into a community in order to find the essence of life. These communities are compassionate-based community: family community; fraternal-based community: community of brotherhood, community of the same fate, community of migrants; and a shared community. From these communities, Kuntowijoyo described his criticism that such communities were utopian enough to exist because of their sporadic and narrow depiction. The reason for writing those communities in the novel shows that its possible existence only in the fiction world. As an offer, Kuntowijoyo explained that such a community is more possible in terms of prophetic ethics.
