The pattern of breastfeeding suggested by the international and national breastfeeding levels is as soon as possible or thirty minutes after birth. Early breastfeeding has an effect on the success of the long-term breastfeeding, so that optimum infant-child health will be acheved and the quality of human resources increases. However, several studies showed low prevalence of early breastfeeding. The causes are complex factors from the mother it self or health workers provide delivery assistance.
The aim of this study was to find out the characteristic relationships of delivery mothers, which include age, parity, education, knowledge and attitude and also the characteristics of health workers that include behavior, knowledge, attitude tow& early breastfeeding. This cross-sectional study and the samples were taken using purposive sampling among 146 mothers fulfilling the criteria of inclusion at dr. Moewardi Distric Hospital, Surahta. The data were analyzed descriptively and was analyzed with the chi-square analysis and, oneway anova analysis, multivarizte relationship was analyzed with logistic regression analysis. The difference between knowledge and attitude of health workers was analyzed using oneway anova, and the qualitative data was done using inzdepth interview.
The results showed that the bivariate and multivariate analysis showed that relationship between age, parity, education, attitude of mothers and the behavior of health workers were not significant (pM.05). The only significant relationship was the mothers kaowledge (F0.05 and OR=2,301). The relationship between age, parity, education, attitude of mothers altogether and the behavior of health workers and the practice of early breastfeeding was not significant (p>0.05), Bivariate analysis with oneway anova showed that midwives knowledge (< 1990), midwives knowledge (> 1990), and mrses (dip!arna graduates) had sigruficant difference (p
