Background: The anatomy of the heart and its complexity as one of anatomy's learning objectives has been taught as fundamental knowledge since forever. Undergraduate medical students have been supported by e-learning videos and anatomy atlas to help them understanding the theory and visualizing the orientation of the structure. Nowadays, the technological advancement has inevitably affected medical education field. Augmented reality (AR), one of the technological advancements which super-imposes onto the user's vision of the real object generated by a computer, is now also in attempt to be implied as an improvement of anatomy educational media in Universitas Gadjah Mada. Purpose: This research's goal is to find out the students' perspective of using augmented reality in the form of mobile application as an educational media for learning in Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing Universitas Gadjah Mada. Method: This qualitative study is conducted by undergoing focus group discussion for the undergraduate medical students consisted of AR-group as intervention and the conventional method-group as control. Result: Gender, Prior Knowledge, and Technology Awareness affect how the undergraduate medical students perceive AR as learning media for anatomy of the heart. Aspects of the tools such as design, cognitive load, degree of learner's control on the application, orientation of the heart given by the AR, user-friendliness, and comparison of AR with other learning media should be taken into account. As in the aspects of the students as learning participants, some factors like innate visual spatial ability, transformation and search skill, learning satisfaction, difficulty of the anatomy of the heart, self-directed learning motivation, and saturation that the students felt are playing roles on how they perceive the AR to help them learning anatomy of the heart. Accommodation by the instructor during learning process, interpretation aimed at the understanding of reality by the students, and achieving the learning objectives are three contributors on how the students also perceive the AR. Conclusion: Gender played role in the visual spatial ability of the students, prior knowledge set a different bottom line for in measuring the transformation and search skill of the students to identify the structures in anatomy of the heart, and technology awareness is a crucial factor to influence the satisfaction and preferences of the students in choosing learning media. Students experienced the user-friendliness on installing the application due to the quick duration it is needed and the easy process along the way, but they uttered about how the early heated device got them in the saturated point quicker than they thought it would.
