THE EXISTENCE OF HERITAGE HOUSES, ITS INFLUENCE ON THE SENSE OF PLACE OF LOCAL PEOPLE TOWARD THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD AND THE DISRUPTING PROBLEMS IN KOTAGEDE HERITAGE AREA, YOGYAKARTA

Kotagede di Yogyakarta merupakan salah satu bekas pusat peradaban di Pulau Jawa yaitu ibu kota Kesultanan Mataram Islam yang memiliki banyak aset cagar budaya. Kotagede merupakan salah satu kawasan cagar budaya unggulan di Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta yang memiliki banyak sekali rumah heritage. Rumah cagar budaya Kotagede memiliki corak arsitektur yang beragam seperti joglo, kalang, limasan, indisch, jengki, dan kampung yang mengandung filosofi, norma, dan sejarah lokal. Namun, sebagai kawasan perkotaan, kawasan pemukiman di kawasan cagar budaya Kotagede tumbuh pesat dan berkembang secara dinamis menjadi kawasan pemukiman yang padat. Saat peradaban baru berkembang dengan pola kehidupan dan bergantinya generasi, banyak rumah cagar budaya yang hilang dalam 20 tahun terakhir. Guna mendorong masyarakat untuk melindungi dan melestarikan rumah pusaka maka perlu diketahui peran dari rumah cagar budaya di era saat ini. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini mencoba untuk memahami arti penting rumah cagar budaya dalam kajian permukiman dengan menghubungkan keberadaan rumah cagar budaya dengan rasa ruang (the sense of place) masyarakat setempat terhadap lingkungannya. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini juga mengaitkannya dengan perilaku protektif serta mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor yang mengganggu keberadaan rumah cagar budaya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif dengan mengambil Kotagede Yogyakarta sebagai lokasi penelitiannya. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskriptif, analisis faktor, dan analisis regresi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keberadaan rumah cagar budaya memiliki hubungan yang positif dengan sense of place masyarakat sekitar terhadap lingkungannya. Sense of place juga terbukti dapat mendorong perilaku protektif masyarakat setempat. Faktor yang secara signifikan mengganggu keberadaan rumah pusaka adalah rendahnya kemampuan finansial, kepemilikan, kurangnya kehidupan sosial budaya, dan kurangnya dukungan dari pemerintah.

Kotagede in Yogyakarta is one of the former centers of civilization in Java as the capital of the Islamic Mataram Sultanate, which has many heritage assets. Nowadays, it is one of the leading heritage areas in Yogyakarta special region, which has so many heritage houses. The heritage houses of Kotagede has various architectural style such as joglo, kalang, limasan, indisch, jengki, and kampong that contains local philosophy, norms, and history. However, as an urban area, the Kotagede heritage area's residential areas grow rapidly and develop dynamically into a dense residential area. As new civilizations developed with new life patterns and generations, many heritage houses were lost in the last 20 years. In order to encourage people to protect and preserve the heritage houses, it is necessary to find out the role of heritage houses in this current era. Therefore, this research tries to understand the significance of heritage houses in the study of human settlement by connecting the existence of heritage houses with the sense of place of local people toward their neighborhood. Furthermore, it attempts to relate to protective behavior and define the factors that disrupt the existence of heritage houses. This research is descriptive research, which takes Kotagede of Yogyakarta as its research location. It utilizes descriptive analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis to analyze the data. The result shows that the existence of heritage houses has a positive relationship with the sense of place of local people toward their neighborhood. The sense of place also has been proven could drive the protective behavior of local people. The factors that are significantly disrupting the existence of heritage houses are the financial capability, ownership, lack of socio-cultural life, and lack of support from the government.
