Gengsterisme Politik: Menilik Fenomena Kelompok Simpatisan PPP Sleman dalam Pendekatan Ruang Publik

Penelitian ini berfokus pada fenomena gengsterisme politik atau relasi kelompok non-negara dengan patronnya. Secara spesifik, penelitian ini menganalisis fenomena kelompok simpatisan PPP di Kabupaten Sleman. Menggunakan desain penelitian kualitatif dengan pendekatan studi kasus, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan latar belakang terbentuknya kelompok simpatisan PPP Sleman dan relasi kelompok tersebut dengan patron politiknya, ditinjau dalam pendekatan ruang publik Habermas. Pendekatan tersebut mengandaikan bahwa eksistensi kelompok simpatisan PPP Sleman dilatar belakangi oleh adanya kesamaan preferensi politik masyarakat sipil di Sleman yang simpati terhadap pergerakan politik PPP. Kelompok simpatisan PPP Sleman menjadi wadah bagi para simpatisan untuk mengisi diskursus perjuangan nilai-nilai Islam dalam ruang publik baik melalui gagasan, opini, maupun tindakan-tindakan konkret seperti kampanye publik pada saat masa pemilu, mengadakan kegiatan keagamaan, hingga kegiatan sosial yang bersifat karitatif. Di samping itu, melalui relasinya dengan patron politik, kelompok simpatisan PPP Sleman memiliki akses terhadap berbagai bentuk kesejahteraan alternatif sebagai respon atas ketidakadilan dan ketidakmerataan pembangunan.

This research focuses on the phenomenon of political gangsterism or the relationship between non-state groups and their patrons. Specifically, this study analyzes the phenomenon of PPP sympathetic groups in the Sleman Regency. Using a qualitative research design with a case study approach, this study aims to explain the background of the formation of the PPP sympathetic group and the group's relationship with its political patrons, viewed in the Habermas public sphere approach. This approach assumes that the existence of PPP sympathizers is motivated by the similarity in political preferences of civil society in that are sympathetic to the PPP political movement. The PPP sympathetic group becomes a forum for sympathizers to fill the discourse of the struggle for Islamic values in the public sphere through ideas, opinions, and concrete actions such as public campaigns during the election period, holding religious activities, to charitable social activities. Also, through their relations with political patrons, the PPP sympathizers have access to various forms of alternative welfare as a response to injustice and inequality in development.
