ELIPSIS DALAM PERCAKAPAN PSIKOTERAPI (Studi kasus pada Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Otto Kernberg, MD)

Penelitian berjudul Elipsis dalam Percakapan Psikoterapi (Studi kasus pada Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Otto Kernberg, MD) ini memaparkan tentang beberapa poin terkait elipsis pada percakapan. Penelitian memiliki tujuan untuk (1) mendeskripsikan bentuk elipsis, (2) mendeskripsikan letak kapan kalimat elipsis, dan (3) fungsi kalimat elipsis. Dalam analisis data, penelitian ini menggunakan metode distribusional atau metode agih dengan teknik pilah unsur langsung, teknik sisip dan teknik lesap. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa transkripsi percakapan alami pada proses psikoterapi berjudul Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Otto Kernberg, MD. Kemudian, peneliti menggunakan teori unsur fungsional kalimat dari kajian sintaksis, elipsis dalam percakapan dari Halliday (1994) dan Birber et al (1999), dan fungsi elipsis dalam percakapan dari White (2013) dan Quirk (1973). Setelah dilakukan analisis, ditemukan beberapa hal terkait elipsis dalam percakapan. Pertama, bentuk elipsis terjadi pada beberapa aspek, yaitu elipsis fungsional, gramatikal dan klausa. Dalam hal ini, partisipan memilih elipsis pada klausa karena mereka membutuhkan kalimat yang singkat dan padat dengan melesapkan lebih dari satu unsur fungsional. Kedua, partisipan menggunakan elipsis pada jawaban (elliptic replies) karena mereka tidak membutuhkan kalimat lengkap dalam menyampaikan informasi pada jawaban. Ketiga, fungsi dari elipsis pada percakapan, yaitu efisiensi kalimat (economy) karena dengan menggunakan kalimat yang efisien, dapat membantu partisipan fokus pada informasi dalam percakapan. Kemudian, elipsis pada percakapan psikoterapi memiliki perbedaan dengan percakapan pada konteks yang lain. Setelah mengetahui jumlah elipsis pada percakapan psikoterapi, ditemukan bahwa elipsis tidak banyak digunakan oleh partisipan percakapan karena partisipan harus menyampaikan kalimat yang jelas dan lengkap agar pesan tersampaikan baik oleh pasien pada terapis atau sebaliknya. Letak elipsis pada percakapan psikoterapi berada pada tempat yang sama dengan percakapan pada konteks umum lainnya, yaitu pada kalimat jawaban. Elipsis secara umum memiliki fungsi sebagai penghemat kata. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan antara fungsi elipsis pada percakapan psikoterapi dengan percakapan pada konteks yang lain.

The research entitled �Ellipsis in Conversational Psychotherapy (A Case Study of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Otto Kernberg, MD)� discusses some of the points related to ellipsis in conversation. There are four objectives in this study, they are (1) describing the form of ellipsis, (2) describing the position of ellipsis, and (3) describing the function of ellipsis. In analyzing data, this study uses distributional methods in immediate constituent analysis, reversing and deletion technique. The data in this study is a transcription of natural conversation in psychotherapy process entitled Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy with Otto Kernberg, MD. Therefore, the researcher utilized the theory of functional element in syntax, the theory of ellipsis in conversation from Halliday (1994), and Biber et al (1999), and the theory of elliptical function in conversation from White (2013) and Quirk (1973). Afterwards, the analysis discovered some points related to ellipsis in the conversation. First, the form of ellipsis is devided into several element namely functional, grammatical and clausal ellipsis. Hence, participants uses more clausal ellipsis in conversations because they needed solid sentence by omitting more than one functional element. Second, elliptic replies used by participants in conversation because they did not need a complete sentence to convey information in reply. Third, the function of ellipsis is to make efficience sentences because it helps participants to focus on the necessary information in elliptical sentences. Henceforward, ellipsis in psychotherapy conversations have some differences with conversations in other contexts. After knowing the amount of ellipsis occurred in psychotheraphy conversation, it was found that ellipsis was not widely used by participants because they had to deliver definite and complete sentences in order to deliver the message either by the patient to the therapist or otherwise. The position of ellipsis in psychotherapy conversations has the same location with conversation in common context, i.e. in the answer of the question. Generally, ellipsis is used to minimize the sentence. Hence, the study discovered that there is no significant difference between the function of ellipsis in psychotherapy conversations and conversations in common contexts.
