PERSEPSI DAN PENGALAMAN MAHASISWA PROFESI KEPERAWATAN DALAM MENGHADAPI PASIEN PALIATIF DI RSUP DR SARDJITO

Latar Belakang: Merawat pasien paliatif adalah suatu hal yang kompleks, fokusnya adalah ketika harus memenuhi kebutuhan pasien baik secara fisik, psikologis, sosial maupun spiritual. Salah satu kompetensi yang harus dimiliki oleh mahasiswa profesi keperawatan adalah melakukan perawatan paliatif. Persepsi dan pengalaman yang dimiliki mahasiswa profesi dalam merawat pasien pada kondisi paliatif dapat berpengaruh pada koping mahasiswa dalam menghadapi stressor dan berpengaruh terhadap pemberian perawatan kepada pasien. Tujuan penelitian: Untuk mengetahui persepsi dan pengalaman yang dimiliki mahasiswa profesi dalam menghadapi pasien pada kondisi paliatif. Metode: Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif eksploratif dengan metode kualitatif menggunakan pendekatan fenomenologi. Teknik pengumpulan sampel menggunakan metode non-probability dengan teknik purposive sampling. Pengambilan data dengan teknik wawancara mendalam (indepth interview) yang dilakukan pada 12 partisipan. Analisis data menggunakan metode fenomenologi yang dikembangkan oleh Colaizzi. Hasil: Dari hasil analisis data didapatkan empat tema besar dengan sembilan kategori dan sembilan belas sub kategori. Keempat tema tersebut yaitu (1) memiliki pengetahuan perawatan paliatif, (2) mendapatkan pembelajaran, (3) merasa adanya tantangan untuk menerapkan perawatan paliatif, dan (4) membutuhkan lingkungan praktik yang mendukung. Kesimpulan: Mahasiswa profesi telah memiliki pemahaman terkait perawatan paliatif. Dalam merawat pasien paliatif, mahasiswa profesi merasakan suka dan duka, serta mendapatkan pembelajaran hidup. Melakukan perawatan pada pasien paliatif memerlukan kompetensi berkomunikasi dan kompetensi merawat.

Background: Caring for palliative patients is a complex matter, the focus is to provides patient's need in physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually. One of the competencies that must be possessed by nursing students is palliative care. Perceptions and experiences of internship nursing students in treating patients with palliative conditions can affect their coping in dealing with stressors and affect the delivery of care for the patients. Objective: To explore the perceptions and experiences of internship nursing students in caring for patients with palliative condition. Method: This research is a descriptive exploratory study with qualitative methods using a phenomenological approach. The sample collection technique uses non-probability method with purposive sampling technique. Retrieval of data with in-depth interviews conducted on 12 participants. Data analysis used the phenomenological method developed by Colaizzi. Result: The data analysis identified that there are four major themes with nine categories and nineteen sub categories. The four major themes are (1) have knowledge of palliative care, (2) get learning, (3) feel there are challenges to implementing palliative care, and (4) need a supportive practical environment. Conclusion: Internship nursing students already have an understanding of palliative care. In treating palliative patients, the internship nursing students feel joy and sorrow, and also get a life learning. Taking care of palliative patients requires communication and caring competencies.
