The Factors of Strengthening Sisterhood depicted in If Beale Street Could Talk by James Baldwin: Bell Hooks' Black Feminist

Di Amerika Serikat, masalah minoritas selalu menarik, tetapi juga sensitif untuk didiskusikan. Hal itu berkaitan dengan opresi, eksploitasi, rasisme, dan peran gender. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini melakukan diskusi tentang perempuan kulit hitam di Amerika Serikat. Perjuangan perempuan kulit hitam adalah nyata. Kemudian, penelitian ini membuktian eksistensi persaudaraan perempuan kulit hitam. Untuk membuktikan keberadaan persudaraan perempuan kulit hitam, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan representasi perempuan kulit hitam dan faktor-faktor persaudaraan perempuan. Data primer dari penelitian ini adalah novel James Baldwin di tahun 1974, berjudul If Beale Street Could Talk. Data sekunder dari penelitian ini adalah buku, jurnal, dan berita-berita yang terkait dengan isu. Penelitian ini mengaplikasikan pendekatan post-nasionalism dari John Carlos Rowe. Selanjutnya, penelitian ini mengekspolari dan menguraikan ide-ide yang dikemukankan oleh Bell Hooks sebagai seorang feminis kulit hitam. Sebagai hasil dari penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan bahwa kehidupan sebagai wanita kulit hitam penuh perjuangan. Peran perempuan kulit hitam di masyarakat adalah penting. Perempuan kulit hitam melawan sistem patriarki dan kelompok dominasi. Selanjutnya, untuk membentuk persaudaraan, perempuan kulit hitam harus memiliki kesadaran, cinta, solidaritas, dan kekuatan sebagai faktor persaudaraan. Setiap faktor memiliki elemen-elemen yang harus dipenuhi. Setelah semua faktor dipenuhi, maka persaudaraan perempuan dapat diciptakan. Persaudaraan perempuan berkerja sangat kuat, ketika perempuan mengetahui ada berberapa faktor pembentuk persaudaraan. Lebih penting adalah bahwa persaudaraan perempuan masih ada dan kuat.

In the United States, minority issue is always appealing, but also sensitive to discuss. It goes along with the oppression, exploitation, racism, and gender roles. Then, this research conducts the discussion of black women in the United States. The struggle of black women is real. Also, this research proves the existence of black sisterhood. The goal of this research is to find out the representation of black women and the factors of sisterhood. The primary data is James Baldwin's novel in 1974, entitled If Beale Street Could Talk. The secondary data of this research are from books, journals, and recent news related to the issues. This research applies the Post-nationalism approach by John Carlos Rowe. Then, this research explores and elaborates on the ideas of Bell Hooks as a black feminist. As a result of this research, the researcher finds out that life as a black woman is full of struggle. Black women face many problems in the United States. Then, the role of black women in society is essential. Black women fight against the patriarchal system and domination group. Subsequently, to create sisterhood, black women must have consciousness, love, solidarity, and power as sisterhood factors. Each factor has some elements which need to accomplish. After all of the factors accomplished, thus sisterhood can be created. Sisterhood can work powerfully. Women need to figure out the factors of sisterhood. Foremost, sisterhood still exists and powerful.
