GRAMMATICAL FEATURES OF AFRICAN AMERICAN VERNACULAR ENGLISH (AAVE) IN THE MOVIE "BOYZ N THE HOOD"

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi fitur khusus tata bahasa African American Vernacular English (AAVE) dalam film Boyz N The Hood (1991). Penelitian ini melibatkan pengumpulan fitur tata bahasa yang khas dari film Boyz N The Hood dan sinkronisasi data dengan subtitle film. Penelitian ini berfokus pada teori Wolfram tentang AAVE dan membandingkan temuan-temuan yang didapat dengan Bahasa Inggris Standar. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data yang ditemukan menunjukkan bahwa AAVE seperti dalam film Boyz N The Hood memiliki aturan dan fitur tata bahasa sendiri termasuk Copula Absence, Invariant Be, Remote Been,No Signaling of the Third Person Singular, Participle as Past, and Multiple Negation. Fitur-fitur tata bahasa AAVE yang dituturkan oleh pembicara dalam film Boyz N The Hood dipengaruhi oleh faktor sosial seperti gender, usia, kelas sosial, dan lingkungan linguistik.

This research aims to identify the main grammatical features of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) in the movie Boyz N The Hood(1991). This research involves collecting the distinctive grammar features from the movie Boyz N The Hoodand synchronizing the data with the movie subtitle. The research focuses on Wolfram's theories about AAVE and compares the findings to the Standard English form. The data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. The findings show that AAVE as in the movie Boyz N The Hood has its own grammatical features including Copula Absence, Invariant Be, Remote Been, No Signaling of the Third Person Singular, Participle as Past, and Multiple Negation. Those AAVE grammatical features uttered by the speakers in the movie Boyz N The Hood are influenced by social factors such are gender, age, social class, and linguistic environment.
