KEBIJAKAN DIVIDEN SEKTOR PERBANKAN DAN LIFECYCLE HYPOTHESIS: STUDI EMPIRIS DI INDONESIA TAHUN 2011 S.D. 2018

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kebijakan dividen bank dengan menggunakan pendekatan siklus hidup perusahaan pada bank yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia periode 2011 s.d. 2018. Hasil analisa menunjukkan bahwa kebijakan dividen bank di Indonesia (probabilitas maupun tingkat pembayaran dividen) mengikuti siklus hidupnya. Penelitian ini memiliki beberapa implikasi. Pertama, karena kebijakan pembayaran dividen bank di Indonesia mempertimbangkan banyak aspek terkait siklus hidupnya seperti konflik keagenan dan peluang investasi, maka hal tersebut dapat menjadi pertimbangan bagi regulator dalam menyusun aturan mengenai kebijakan dividen sebagaimana dalam Basel III. Kedua, bagi investor yang menghendaki dividen maka sebaiknya memilih bank yang telah berada pada fase yang lebih matang, dan sebaliknya.

This research aims to investigate bank dividend policy in the dividend life cycle hypothesis framework using a sample of Indonesian banks over the period of 2011 to 2018. The findings show that the dividend policy of Indonesian banks, both propensity to pay and level of dividend follow its life cycle. The result has some implications. Firstly, as Indonesian banks dividend policy follows its life cycle, which implies there is a number of factors taken into consideration in the dividend policy decisions such as agency conflict and investment opportunities; hence, the regulator might use this as a consideration in regards to the dividend policy regulation as in Basel III. Secondly, for investors who prefer dividend payment as investment return should choose a more mature bank, and vice versa.
