Garuda dalam seni-budaya Bali :: Kajian fungsi dan makna simbolisnya

Penelitian ini dimaksudkan untuk mengungkap, mengkaji, dan mengetahui fungsi dan makna simnbolis Garuda dalam seni budaya Bali, sejarah perkembangan motif garuda, konsep penempatan, dan pandangan masyarakat terhadap bentuk bentuk Garuda dalam seni budaya Bali pada karya seni pahat atau patung. Menggali konsep tradisi mengenai simbol-simbol burung sebagai simbol dewa dunia atas dan sebagai manivestasi kendaraan Dewa Wisnu serta simbol status sosial terkait dengan seni budaya masyarakatnya, kemudian bentuk Garuda pada sarana upacara ritual, sebagai elemen hias bangunan, dan sebagai presentasi estetis dalam penciptaan karya seni pahat. Selain itu untuk mengetahui aspek-aspek yang mempengaruhi perubahan fungsi yang tejadi dan melihat sampai di mana perkembangan dan kelanjutannya akibat perubahan taman. Demikian pula pergeseran fungsi dan makna simbol Garuda akibat pengaruh budaya luar. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan multidisiplin. Dengan demikian melalui kajian ini diperoleh kejelasan yang otentik tentang fungsi dan makna simbolis Garuda dalam budaya Bali. Untuk mengungkap masalah dalam penelitian, metode yang digunakan bersifat kualitatif dengan pendekatan multidisiplin yang lebih difokuskan pada pendekatan historis dan antropologi yang dibantu dengan ilmu-ilmu lain. Cara penelitian secara garis besar dibedakan atas persiapan penelitian; pelaksanaan penelitian, dan penyusunan laporan. Obyek pengamatan pada hasil karya seni kriya yakni pahat dan patung berbentuk Garuda atau perwujudan simbol burung sebagai simbol dewa dunia atas serta manivestasi kendaraan Dewa Wisnu yang berkaitan dengan fungsi sosial Garuda dalam masyarakat, fungsi fisik, dan fungsi personal Garuda sebagai presentasi estetis serta perubahan dan pergeseran fungsi dan makna simbolis Garuda. Jalan penelitian dilakukan dengan cara observasi langsung dengan melihat, mengamati bentuk-bentuk Garuda dalam karya seni sebagai alat dan sarana upacara, sebagai elemen hias pada bangunan, dan sebagai presentasi estetis. Analisis hasil penelitian menggunakan analisis kontekstual dengan pendekatan multidisiplin. Dengan demikian dugaan adanya hubungan yang berkait dalam seni budaya Bali dapat terungkap. Sebagai bagian integral kehidupan seni budaya Bali ternyata fungsi dan makna simbolis Garuda memiliki rangkaian yang berkait. Keterkaitan tersebut tampak pada keragaman aspek budaya masyarakat pendukungnya seperti, agama yang dianut masyarakat, kepercayaan terhadap binatang mitologi pelindung masyarakat, kreativitas dalam penciptaan karya seni, yang semua itu dilandasi dengan konsep harmoni. Dengan demikian antropomorfis bentuk Garuda sebagai hasil karya manusia difungsikan sesuai dengan kebutuhan dasar manusia akan hal-ha1 yang berfungsi ritual, elemen hias bangunan, dan presentasi estetis masih dapat dilihat keberadannya sampai sekarang.

The purpose of this research is to solve, to assess, and to understand the function and symbolic meaning of the Guruda in the art and culture of Bali, the development history of the Guruda motive, its placement concept, and the vision of the society to the form of the Guruda in the art and culture of Bali for carving arts and sculptures. To search the tradition concepts about bird symbols as a symbol of above world God and as manifestation of the vehicle of the God Visnu, together with the symbol of social status in relation with the art and culture of its society. The style of the Guruda in the ritual festival, as an element of art for the building, and as the esthetical presentation in the creation of carving art. Another purpose is to understand the aspects that influent the change of its function that was happen and to observe its development and its sustain that is caused by the change of the period. The movement of the function and symbolic means of the Garuda that is caused by the influent of foreign culture is also concerned. This research was carried out by using multidiscipline approach, so that from this assessment the authentic explanation about the function and symbolic meaning of the Garuda in Bali will be found. A qualitative method with multidiscipline approach that was focussed to the historical and anthropological completed with other sciences were used to solve the problems in this research. In general the research was done by preparing the research, carried out and writing the report. The object of observation to the work of craft that are carving art and sculpture of the Guruda or the form of bird symbol as the symbol of the God from above world together with manifestation of the vehicle of the God Visnu that interlacing with the social function of the Guruda in the society, physical function, and personal function of the Guruda as an esthetic presentation, changing and movement function and symbolic meaning of the Garudu. The research was done by direct observation to the style of the Guruda in the art and equipment of the ritual ceremony, as the art element of the building, and as an esthetical presentation of art. The analysis of the research was done by using contextual analysis with multidiscipline approach, so that the hypothesis about the existence of interlaced relation in the art and culture of Bali can be solved. As an integral part of life from the art and culture of Bali realize that the function and symbolic meaning of the Guruda have a chain that interlaced each other. That interlacing can be seen in the diversification of the cultures of the society that support it such as: religion, the believed to the protection from the mythological animal, the creativity in creating work of art, where all of that, are support by the harmony. The anthropomorphous style of the Garuda as human creation are functioned according to basic need of human to a kind that have a function as ritual, element art of building, and the esthetical presentation that can be seen its existence until now.
