Novel Gadis Kretek karya Ratih Kumala: Analisis Tokoh dan Penokohan

Permasalahan pokok dalam penelitian ini ialah tokoh dan penokohan dalam novel Gadis Kretek karya Ratih Kumala. Pemilihan novel Gadis Kretek sebagai objek material penelitian ini didasarkan pada perkembangan industri kretek yang menghadirkan tokoh-tokoh sebagai produsen kretek. Novel Gadis Kretek dipilih sebagai objek penelitian karena peristiwa cerita yang dibentuk tokoh berkesinambungan antara peristiwa masa lalu dan peristiwa masa kini untuk menelusuri kembali peristiwa cerita sesuai penempatan tokoh ke dalam latar. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ialah metode deskripsif analitik. Penelitian ini memperoleh hasil sebagai berikut. Pertama, tokoh novel Gadis Kretek terbagi menjadi dua berdasarkan peran dan pentingnya tokoh, yaitu tokoh utama dan tokoh bawahan, yang diklasifikasi lagi menjadi dua bagian, yaitu tokoh bawahan utama dan tokoh bawahan tambahan. Tokoh utama dalam novel Gadis Kretek adalah Dasiyah (Jeng Yah) dan Soeraja (Pak Raja). Tokoh bawahan utama yang terungkap ialah Lebas, Tegar, Karim, Idroes Moeria, dan Roemaisa, sedangkan tokoh bawahan tambahan yang terungkap ialah Soedjagad, Pak Trisno, Juru Tulis, Mak Iti', Pak Mloyo, Mbok Marem, Pak Joko, Sentot, Purwanti, dan Rukayah. Kedua, motivasi tokoh terbagi menjadi dua, yaitu motivasi dasar dan motivasi spesifik. Motivasi dasar tokoh utama dan tokoh bawahan saling berkaitan satu sama lain, sedangkan motivasi spesifik tokoh utama dan tokoh bawahan ditemukan untuk melengkapi motivasi dasar mereka. Ketiga, novel Gadis Kretek memiliki hubungan antartokoh dan antarunsur. Unsur-unsur lain yang berhubungan dengan unsur tokoh adalah unsur alur, latar, tema, dan judul novel.

The main issue in this research is character and charactization of the novel Gadis Kretek by Ratih Kumala. The selection of Gadis Kretek as material object research is based on the historical novel about the formation of cigarette industry which character presents as cigarette producer. Novel Gadis Kretek was choosed as a research object because the story events formed by the characters are continuous between the past and present to trace back the story event appropriate to the placement of characters into the setting. The method used in this research is descriptive analytic. This research obtain the the following result. First, the characters of novel Gadis Kretek are divided into two based on the role and importance of the character, namely main character and additional character, which are divided more into two, namely the main additional character and side additional character. The main characters in the novel Gadis Kretek are Dasiyah (Jeng Yah) and Soeraja (Pak Raja). The main additional character that revealed are Lebas, Tegar, Karim, Idroes Moeria, and Roemaisa, while the side additional character that revealed are Soedjagad, Pak Trisno, Juru Tulis, Mak Iti', Pak Mloyo, Mbok Marem, Pak Joko, Sentot, Purwanti, and Rukayah. Second, character's motivation are divided into two, namely basic motivation and special motivation. Third, novel Gadis Kretek has relationship between characters and between elements. Other elements related to the characters are the elements of the plot, setting, theme, and title of the novel.
