Menolak “ada†berarti mengakui “alienasi†atau “isolasi†sebagai lawan eksistensi. Gabriel Marcel dapat memahami eksistensi sebagai coesse yang menunjuk kepada realitas manusia sebagai makhluk sosial. “Adaku†selalu bersama dengan “ada-ada-yang-lain†sebagai sesama manusia. Aku-Engkau adalah satu dan utuh dalam “Kita.†“Aku†bukan musuh atau ancaman bagi “Engkau.†Orang lain adalah rahmat bagi “adaku.†“Adaku†terlepas dari “adaada- yang-lain†merupakan ha1 yang sama sekali tidak mungkm. “Kebahagiaan,†ungkap Gabriel Marcel, datangnya dari orang lain. Karena itu, “cinta-kesetiaanpengharapan†merupakan kondisi dasar supaya mencapai esse sebagai co-esse. “Kehadiran-pertemuan-partisipasi†tidak memiliki makna tanpa titik landas yang kuat atas “esse sebagai co-esse.†Konteks kehidupan bersama selalu mengutamakan “Kita†yang satu dan utuh. Inilah yang disebut sebagai intersubyektivitas sejati. Gabriel Marcel mau menekankan bahwa dasar intersubyektivitas adalah cinta sejati (agape). Kesetiaan, pengharapan, kehadiran, pertemuan, partisipasi dapat mencapai maknanya yang mendasar melalui cinta sej ati. Permasalahan yang muncul sebagai rintangan terhadap esse sebagai coesse ialah fanatisme, hndamentalisme, terorisme, kemajuan teknik industri peralatan perang, peperangan dan perdagangan senjata. Filsafat eksistensi Gabriel Marcel ingm memperjuangkan jalan menuju cinta, perdamaian, persahabatan dan persatuan. Dengan demikian, filsafat eksistensi Gabriel Marcel mengutamakan kemanusiaan. Konflik-konflik “suku-agama-ras-golongan†selalu menjadi persoalan-persoalan nyata dalam komunitas, namun kemanusiaan selalu satu dan utuh. Tujuan penelitian ini ialah berusaha menemukan arti dan dasar filsafat eksistensi Gabriel Marcel, sehingga dapat memudahkan refleksi atas situasi konkret manusia masa luni sebagai konteks co-esse; menampilkan deskripsi keaslian pemikiran Gabriel Marcel dan merelevansikan dengan konteks kehidupan bersama dewasa ini melalui interpretasi-interpretasi baru, pikiranpikiran baru, kesimpulan-kesimpulan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode hermeneutik-reflektif. Hasil penelitian yang demikian menunjukkan bahwa menjadi manusia eksistensial berarti manusia mengada bersama sesama manusia dalam konteks kebhinnekaan. Kata-kata kunci: To-Esse, (filsafat eksistensi) Aku-Engkau (intersubyektivitas), Cinta (dasar kehidupan komunitas).â€
“Being†is identical with light. “Nothing†is identical with dark. To recognize “being†means to admit “I-thou reality†in the context of living together. To reject “being†means to approve an “alienation†or “isolation†as the counter of existence. Gabriel Marcel appreciated existence as “co-esse †which refers to the human reality as social being. “1-Thou†is one and whole in “We.†I am not an enemy or a threat to “Thou.†Others are grace to my being. My being apart from other beings is impossible thing. “Beatitude,†says Gabriel Marcel, comes from the other. Therefore, “love-fidelity-hope†is the basic condition in order to reach the “esse as ro-esse.†“Presence-encounter-participation†lose its significance unless they are laid on the basis of the “esse as co-esse.“ The context of living together always emphasize the one “We†and the whole. This is called the real intersubjectivity. Gabriel Marcel wish to stress that a base of genuine intersubjectivity is true love (agape). Fidelity, hope, presence, encounter, participation can attain its fundamental significance by true love. Problems that arise as obstacle to the esse as co-esse are fanatism, fundamentalism, terrorism, industrial technique progress of war equipment, war and arms bazaar. The existence philosophy of Gabriel Marcel intends to find a way to love, peace, fi-tendship and unity. Thus, the philosophy of existence of Gabriel Marcel emphasizes humanity. The “ethnic, religion, race, class†conflicts always become real problems in the community, but humanity is always one and whole. The objective of this research is an effort to discover the meaning and the basis of existence philosophy of Gabriel Marcel, so that it can facilitate the reflection on the concrete situation of nowadays as the context of co-esse. It shall present an originality description of the view of Gabriel Marcel and put forward its relevance to the context of social community today through new interpretations, insights and conclusions. This research uses reflective and hermeutic method. The result of this research even show that to be existentially human means being with the other in their diversity. The key words: “Co-Esse (the existence phdosohy), The IThou relation (the intersubjectivity), Love (the community basic).â€
