PENGARUH LAMA PERENDAMAN EKSTRAK DAUN JAMBU BIJI (Psidium guajava L.) TERHADAP LAJU KOROSI KAWAT ORTODONTI STAINLESS STEEL

Kawat ortodonti adalah bagian dari peranti ortodonti yang digunakan untuk memperbaiki posisi gigi-geligi di dalam rongga mulut. Kawat ortodonti terbuat dari berbagai macam jenis salah satunya adalah stainless steel. Kekurangan dari stainless steel yaitu memiliki daya hantar yang tinggi dan dapat mengalami korosi. Korosi pada kawat stainless steel dapat diturunkan dengan inhibitor korosi ekstrak daun jambu biji yang mengandung senyawa tanin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui pengaruh lama perendaman ekstrak daun jambu biji (Psidium guajava L) terhadap laju korosi kawat ortodonti stainless steel. Dua puluh empat kawat stainless steel berdiameter 0,7 cm dengan panjang 10 cm dibentuk U dibagi secara acak dalam empat kelompok kemudian dilakukan penimbangan berat awal. Kelompok A (Kawat direndam tanpa perlakuan) Kelompok B (perendaman 36 menit), Kelompok C (72 menit), Kelompok D (114 menit) semua kelompok di uji selama 21 hari dengan konsentrasi ekstrak 0,1%. Semua kelompok kembali dihitung berat akhir dan dilakukan analisis data menggunakan one way ANOVA dan post hoc LSD dengan tingkat signifikansi 95%. Hasil penelitian lama perendaman ekstrak daun jambu biji menunjukkan penurunan laju korosi yang signifikan (p<0,05). Kesimpulan penelitian adalah lama perendaman ekstrak daun jambu biji dapat menurunkan laju korosi kawat stainless steel.

Orthodontic wire is part of the orthodontic appliance that is used to correct the position of teeth in the oral cavity. Orthodontic wire is made from various materials, one of which is stainless steel. One of the disadvantages of stainless steel is that it has high conductivity and corrosion. Corrosion of stainless steel wire can be reduced by corrosion inhibitors of guava leaf extract containing tannin compounds. This study aimed to determine the effect of immersion duration of guava leaf extract (Psidium guajava L) on the corrosion rate of stainless steel orthodontic wire. Twenty-four stainless steel wires with 0.7 cm in diameter and length of 10 cm, shaped U were randomly divided into four groups and then the initial weight was weighed. Group A (orthodontic Wire immersed without treatment), group B (36 minutes immersion), group C (immersion 72 minutes), group D (immersion 114 minute) all groups were tested for 21 days with extract concentrations of 0.1 %. All groups were being re-calculated for the final weight and then all the data were analyzed by one way ANOVA and post hoc LSD with significancy 95%. The result of this study was the immersion duration of guava leaf extract showed a significant decrease in the corrosion rate (p<0.05). The conclusion of the research is the immersion duration of guava leaf extract could reduce the corrosion rate of stainless steel wire.
