Sekitar 50 hingga 80 persen ibu mengalami postpartum blues. Postpartum blues adalah gangguan mood ringan yang dialami oleh ibu pasca melahirkan. Postpartum blues umumnya menghilang dengan sendirinya. Postpartum blues dapat berkembang menjadi postpartum depression dan postpartum psychosis. Perkembangan postpartum blues memiliki dampak negatif pada ibu dan tumbuh kembang anak. Postpartum blues juga dapat membahayakan nyawa ibu dan bayi. Diagnosis dini postpartum blues bersama dengan identifikasi faktor-faktor risiko akan memungkinkan tenaga kerja kesehatan untuk mencegah berkembangnya postpartum blues menjadi postpartum depression. Faktor risiko postpartum blues yang masih menjadi perselisihan adalah komplikasi persalinan.

Postpartum blues is a common, mild mood disorder that around 50 to 80 percent mothers experience which occurs after child birth and generally resolves on its own. Postpartum blues may develop into postpartum depression and eventually postpartum psychosis. The development of postpartum blues has a negative impact on both the mother and on child development. It may also cause danger to the lives of the mother and the baby. Early diagnosis of postpartum blues along with the identification of risk factors will allow health workers to prevent it from developing into postpartum depression. A risk factor of postpartum blues which remains a dispute is whether or not labor complications is linked towards the incidence of postpartum blues.
