KARAKTERISTIK MANAJER DAN STRUKTUR MODAL: STUDI EMPIRIS DI BURSA EFEK INDONESIA PERIODE 2014-2018

Manajer dalam sebuah perusahaan memegang peran penting dalam menentukan dan mengeksekusi keputusan-keputusan strategis untuk dapat mencapai visi dan misi perusahaan, begitu juga dalam menentukan struktur modal perusahaan. Dalam hal ini, selain mempertimbangkan faktor-faktor fundamental keuangan perusahaan, karakteristik dari manajer juga dapat menentukan keputusan struktur modal dalam sebuah perusahaan. Lebih lanjut, seperti apa kemudian pengaruh dari karakteristik manajer tersebut terhadap struktur modal perusahaan. Apakah akan menggunakan tingkat utang yang rendah atau sebaliknya menggunakan tingkat utang yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji dan menganalisis hubungan antara karakteristik manajer dengan keputusan penggunaan tingkat leverage yang rendah. Karakteristik dari manajer dalam penelitian ini meliputi gender, umur, preferensi risiko, dan overconfident. Dalam penelitian ini juga mengggunakan beberapa variabel kontrol yang meliputi ukuran perusahaan, profitabilitas, nilai aset berwujud, pertumbuhan, kepemilikan saham mayoritas, umur perusahaan, kepemilikan kas perusahaan, dan capital expenditure. Sampel yang digunakan pada penelitian adalah perusahaan-perusahaan yang terdaftar pada indeks Kompas 100 di BEI periode 2014-2018 dan sudah melalui kriteria-kriteria yang telah ditentukan peneliti. Teknik analisis dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan regresi linear berganda dan regresi logistik untuk pengujian hipotesis. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dari empat karakteristik manajer yang diuji hanya terdapat satu karakteristik yang berpengaruh pada keputusan low leverage yaitu umur CEO sedangkan preferensi risiko, overconfident, dan gender tidak berpengaruh terhadap keputusan low leverage. Pada penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa profitabilitas, kepemilikan saham mayoritas, umur perusahaan, dan kepemilkan kas berpengaruh terhadap keputusan penggunaan low leverage.

Managers in a company play an important role in determining and executing strategic decisions to be able to achieve the company's vision and mission, as well as in determining the company's capital structure. In this case, besides considering the fundamental factors of corporate finance, the characteristics of managers can also determine capital structure decisions in a company. Furthermore, what then the effect of the characteristics of these managers on the company's capital structure. Whether to use a low debt level or use a high level of debt. This study aims to examine and analyze the relationship between the characteristics of managers with the decision to use a low level of leverage. The characteristics of managers in this study include gender, age, risk preference, and overconfident. The research also uses several control variables which include firm size, profitability, tangible asset value, growth, majority share ownership, company age, company cash holdings, and capital expenditure. The sample used in the study were companies listed on the Kompas 100 index on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in the 2014-2018 period and had passed the criteria determined by the researchers. The analysis technique in this research is to use multiple linear regression and logistic regression for hypothesis testing. The results of this study indicate that of the four manager characteristics tested there is only one characteristic that influences low leverage decisions, namely the age of the CEO while risk preference, overconfident, and gender do not affect the low leverage decision. In this study also found that profitability, majority share ownership, company age, and cash ownership influence the decision to use low leverage.
