USAHA ASURANSI DI JAWA PADA AKHIR ABAD XIX SAMPAI AWAL ABAD XX

Penelitian ini membahas mengenai usaha asuransi di Jawa pada akhir abad XIX sampai awal abad XX. Berfokus pada proses peningkatan usaha asuransi pasca penerapan kebijakan ekonomi liberal. kebijakan ekonomi ini memicu peningkatan investasi asing ke Jawa yang kemudian mendorong munculnya berbagai aktivitas ekonomi baru. Aktivitas ekonomi baru ini kemudian meningkatkan kebutuhan atas usaha asuransi sebagai sebuah proteksi atas resiko. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode sejarah. Sumber yang digunakan adalah arsip laporan keuangan perusahaan asuransi, arsip kolonial, koran, majalah, buku-buku, artikel, dan foto yang sezaman. Berdasarkan pembacaan atas sumber-sumber tersebut disertai dengan analisis penulis, didapatkan kesimpulkan bahwa ekspansi ekonomi sangat berpengaruh terhadap usaha asuransi di Jawa. Hal ini disebabkan karena peningkatan aktivitas ekonomi sekaligus bersamaan dengan meningkatnya jumlah orang Eropa yang ada di tanah jajahan. Faktor-faktor inilah yang mendorong terbentuknya kebutuhan-kebutuhan atas usaha asuransi di Jawa pada akhir abad XIX sampai awal abad XX.

This study discusses the insurance business in Java in the late XIX century until the beginning of the XX century. Focusing on the process of improving the insurance business after the adoption of liberal economic policies. this economic policy triggered an increase in foreign investment in Java which later led to the emergence of new economic activities. This new economic activity then increases the need for insurance business as a protection against risk. The method used in this study is the historical method. sources used were insurance company financial statement archives, colonial archives, newspapers, magazines, books, articles, and contemporary photos. Based on the reading of these sources accompanied by the analysis of the author, it was concluded that Economic expansion is very influential on the insurance business in Java. This was due to an increase in economic activity at the same time as an increasing number of Europeans were in the colony. These factors who stimulate the needs for insurance business in Java in the late XIX century until the beginning of the colony.
