PERFORMATIVITAS TRANSGENDER DALAM NOVEL THE DANISH GIRL KARYA DAVID EBERSHOFF

Isu-isu yang terkait dengan LGBT telah menghadirkan pro dan kontra dalam lingkungan masyarakat. Kaum LGBT selalu dilekatkan pada stigma-stigma negatif seperti abnormal, penyakit, sampah masyarakat dan bahkan pendosa. Tidak jarang perjuangan-perjuangan LGBT pun telah dilakukan untuk mendapatkan kesetaraan, keadilan, dan juga identitas yang dapat diakui oleh masyarakat dengan baik. Dalam penulisan karya sastra, sebenarnya isu-isu tersebut sudah banyak diangkat jauh sebelum awal abad ke dua puluh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui proses terbentuknya identitas transgender. Bagi Judith Butler, seks dan gender adalah sama-sama wacana karena terbentuk secara kultural dan diproduksi berulang-ulang. Wacana tersebut bersifat tidak stabil, sehingga gender tidak stabil. Dalam penelitian ini akan dijelaskan bagaimana drag akan menjelaskan dua sifat gender yakni feminim dan maskulin. Oleh karena itu maka pertanyaan penelitian yang dimunculkan dalam penelitian ini adalah (1). Bagaimana proses terbentuknya identitas gender pada tokoh Lili Elbe. (2). Bagaimana performativitas yang terbentuk pada tokoh Lili Elbe. Selain menggunakan teori identitas gender, penelitian ini juga menggunakan teori performativitas dimana dengan adanya teori performativitas maka ditemukan hasil bagaimana tokoh transgender pada novel The Danish Girl berusaha memenuhi standar nilai-nilai yang sudah diterapkan di masyarakat. Penelitian ini juga menggunakan metode deskritip analitik dimana ditemukan hasil bahwa konstruksi sosial dapat membentuk identitas gender yang baru pada individu sehingga individu harus memutuskan untuk memilih gender yang mana yang akan menjadi identitas dirinya.

The issues related to LGBT always create the pro and cons in society in how see their existence. LGBT people are alwasya attached to negative stigmas such as abnormalities, ilness, community trash and even sinners. The struggle of the LGBT are always done to gain equality, justice, and identity that can be approved by the community well. In literary work these issues have been actually raised before the beginning of 20th century. The purpose of this research is to determine the process of formation of transgender identity. For Judith Butler, sex and gender are both discourses because they are culturally formed and repeatedly produced. The discourse is unstable, so gender is not stable. In this research, it will be explained how drag will explain two gender characteristics namely feminine and masculine. Therefore, the research questions raised in this study are (1). How is the process of forming gender identity in the character of Lili Elbe. (2). How is the performance formed in the character of Lili Elbe. In addition to using the theory of gender identity, this research also uses the theory of performativity where the existence of the theory of performativity found the results of how transgender figures are. Beside using the theory of gender identity, this study also uses the theory of performativity where the existence of the theory of performativity found the results of how the transgender characters in the novel The Danish Girl try to meet the standards of values that have been applied in society. This study also uses descriptive analytic method where the results are found that social construction can form a new gender identity in individuals so that individuals must decide to choose which gender will become their identity.
