Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran sebuah travel agent dalam pengembangan wisata daerah di Bajo Mola, Wakatobi serta bagaimana tahapan yang dialakukan hingga berlangsungnya pengembangan pariwisata melalui kegiatan atau keberadaan travel agent tersebut. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data adalah dengan wawancara tidak terstruktur dan analisis data. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa sebuah travel agent dapat berperan dalam pengembangan wisata daerah di Bajo Mola dengan adanya kegiatan community development, yaitu melalui pelibatan masyarakat secara langsung dalam kegiatan wisatanya dan pelibatan wisatawan melalui kegiatan volunteering. Adapun peran tersebut dapat terlaksana secara maksimal dengan adanya kerjasama antara travel agent dengan instansi swasta sebagai pemilik modal serta pemerintah setempat selaku pemegang otoritas tertinggi di kawasan tersebut.

The objective of this research was to understood the role of a travel agent in the tourism development in Bajo Mola, Wakatobi and to understood the process through the tour activity. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Data collection methods are through unstructured interview and data analysis.The research had led to the finding that a travel agent was instrumental in the tourism development in Bajo Mola,Wakatobi through the community development that consisted of community empowerment in the tourism activities and volunteering by the traveler. The role of the travel agent in the tourism development could be realized by the partnership between the travel agent, private agencies and local government.
