Fase siklus estrus ditentukan berdasarkan perubahan karakter sel-sel epitel vagina. Pengamatan dilakukan selama 24 jam, kelompok pertama sapi pejantan dan induk dipelihara bersama secara fulltime, sedangkan kelompok kedua dipelihara bersama secara intermittent. Tingkah laku seksual pejantan yang diamati yaitu Oro-nasal contact (ONC), Flehmen, Mounts orientation response (MOR), Mounts, dan Services. Tingkah laku induk yang diamati yaitu Mounting, Stand to be mounted (STBM), dan penampakan vulva (warna, kebengkakan, sekresi lendir).

This study was conducted to determine the sexual behavior of bulls and cows with two different housing systems during one estrous cycle. The estrous cycle stage was determined by changing in the character of the vaginal epithelial cells. Observations were carried out for 24 hours, the first group of bulls and cows were kept together in fulltime, while the second group were kept together intermittently. Bulls sexual behaviour were observed including Oro-nasal contact (ONC), Flehmen, Mounts orientation response (MOR), Mounts, and Services, while cow were Mounting, Stand to be mounted (STBM), and vulvar appearance (color, swelling, secretion of mucus). The data was analyzed by independent T-test. At the time when cows at the estrus stage, bulls that kept together full time and intermittent show ONC, Flehmen, MOR, Mounts, and Services behavior as many as 94,75±24,55 and 16,00±10,03; 31,75±15,80 and 7,00±2,45; 138,75±79,73 and 35,00±25,50; 15,25±10,50 and 7,50±9,75; 2,25±1,26 and 4,00±3,56 times per stage, respectively. Bull which were kept together in fulltime while the cows in estrus stage showed a higher ONC response (P<0.05) rather than intermittent group. Other behaviors found no significant differences. At the time of estrus, the cows that kept together in fulltime and intermittent showed the response of mounting, STBM, reddening vulva, swelling vulva and mucous vulva as many as 25% and 0%; 100% and 100%; 75% and 50%; 75% and 50%; 100% and 100%, respectively. The response of mounting, reddening vulva and swelling vulva were higher in fulltime group, whereas STBM and mucous secretion during the estrus stage were found in both groups. Cattle which were kept together in fulltime housing expressed sexual behavior more intense than thus which a kept separately.
