Skripsi ini membahas novel karya William Golding yang berjudul Lord of The Flies. Novel ini bercerita tentang sifat jahat yang ada dalam diri manusia. Tujuan utama dari skripsi ini adalah untuk menguak arti dari simbol-simbol yang ada di dalam sebuah benda yang di temukan di dalam cerita, yaitu the conch. Skripsi ini mendiskusikan tentang pentingnya the conch di dalam cerita, simbol-simbol apa saja yang ada di dalam the conch, dan juga akan membahas tentang pesan-pesan yang di sampaiakn oleh William Golding melalui the conch. Skripsi ini menggunakan pendekatan objektif. Pendekatan ini digunakan karena dirasa paling cocok untuk menganalisa simbol-simbol yang ada di sebuah novel. Penelitian perpustakan juga dilakukan untuk mendukung analisa skripsi ini. Hasil yang didapat dari analisa adalah sebagai berikut; the conch merupakan objek yang sangat penting di dalam cerita Lord of The Flies, karena merupakan sebuah perlambangan dari simbol-simbol yang ada di dalam novel. The conch juga menjadi sebuah alat bagi William Golding untuk berbagi pandangan kepada para pembacanya, pandangan itu meliputi persoalan yang terjadi di tengah masyarakat. The conch adalah perlambangan dari banyak simbol, antara lain; simbol demokrasi, hak untuk berbicara, kekuatan, hukum, dan juga ketaatan. Simbol-simbol tersebut digunakan oleh William Golding untuk menyampaikan opini nya kepada para pembaca. Yaitu mengajak para pembaca untuk lebih memahami betapa rumit nya hidup bermasyarkat, dengan tujuan agar mereka bisa lebih memahami diri mereka sendiri, orang lain, dan dunia di sekitar mereka.

This research paper analyzes William Goldings novel Lord of The Flies. The novel presents a topic of evil human nature. The primary objective of this research is to reveal the symbolic meanings behind an object from the story, that is, the conch. This study gives an elaborate discussion on the importance of the conch to the story, the symbolic meanings behind the conch, and also discusses about the message that author conveys through the conch. This research paper applies objective approach, since it is the most suitable approach to study the novels symbol. Library research is employed to support the analysis. The result of the analysis shows that the conch is a significant part of the story, that is, because the conch is symbol of the novel through which William Golding shares his perspective to the reader about issues in his society. The conch is the representation of many symbols, such as democracy, free speech, power, law, and order. The symbols represented by the conch are utilized by William Golding to share his thought, as he urges the reader to recognize the complexity of the society, so the reader can understand themselves, other people, and the world.
