Kota Balikpapan merupakan kota yang berkembang disepanjang pesisir Laut Selat Makassar karena adanya perusahaan minyak dan gas (Migas) yang mendukung roda perekonomian. Perkembangan kota ini seakan menarik minat masyarakat baik disekitar maupun diluar pulau Kalimantan untuk menjadi tujuan mencari lapangan pekerjaan. Kampung Tepo merupakan salah satu kampung berada di pinggiran kota Balikpapan dan termasuk bagian dari kelompok masyarakat miskin tertinggi ke 2 di Kecamatan Balikpapan Utara. Seiring dengan bertambahnya tahun, perubahan fisik ruang kampung ini terlihat mulai hilangnya lahan-lahan perkebunan sebagai karakteristik mata pencarian masyarakat kampung pergeseran fisik ruang tentunya mempengaruhi profesi masyarakat di Kampung ini. Salah satu kelompok yang mengalami perubahan profesi merupakan kelompok keluarga berpenghasilan rendah yang juga memiliki kebutuhan terhadap pekerjaan. Penelitian ini membahas tentang Perilaku Perjalanan Bekerja Keluarga Berpenghasilan Rendah di Kampung Tepo yang berfokus pada perilaku perjalanan bekerja yang dilakukan oleh kepala keluarga sebagai perwakilan dari keluarga. Pendekatan penelitian yang digunakan adalah Fenomenologi dengan analisis induktif kualitatif melalui observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi dan triangulasi. Penelitian ini menghasilkan temuan bahwa perilaku perjalanan bekerja yang dilakukan oleh keluarga berpenghasilan rendah dikampung tepo terbentuk atas konsep fleksibel dan adaptif. Fleksibel merupakan keinginan untuk mendapatkan kemudahan melakukan perjalanan bekerja menuju ke lokasi yang jauh dari tempat tinggal karena adanya dinamika pendapatan keluarga tanpa mengalami hambatan dalam proses bekerja. Adaptif dipahami sebagai cara untuk mempertahankan ekonomi yang dimiliki karena dinamika pendapatan yang memberikan desakan untuk melakukan perjalanan untuk mencari peluang peningkatan ekonomi keluarga. Melalui pemahaman ini, pengunaan moda transportasi pribadi merupakan cara kelompok keluarga ini agar tetap mampu melakukan perjalanan-perjalana yang bahkan jauh dari tempat tinggal mereka tanpa harus mengalami hambatan pada proses perjalanannya. Selain itu, peneliti melihat bahwa dalam melakukan perjalanan bekerja, terdapat persaingan yang dilakukan oleh kelompok keluarga berpenghasilan rendah dan adanya perubahan fisik ruang Kampung Tepo mempengaruhi kelompok ini dalam hal prefensi mereka terhadap pemilihan moda transportasi yang cenderung menggunakan transportasi pribadi.

The city of Balikpapan is a city that has developed along the coast of the Makassar Strait due to the presence of oil and gas companies that support the economy. The development of this city seemed to attract the interest of the people both around and outside the island of Borneo to become a destination to find jobs. Kampung Tepo is one of the villages located on the outskirts of Balikpapan and is part of the second highest poor group in the North Balikpapan District. Along with the increase in years, the physical changes in the village space began to appear as the loss of plantation land as a characteristic of the livelihoods of the village people, a physical shift in space certainly affected the community profession in this village. One group that has undergone a change of profession is a low income family group that also has a need for work. This study discusses Travel Behaviour in Working of Low-Income Families in Kampung Tepo which focuses on working behavior of work carried out by the head of the family as a representative of the family. The research approach used is phenomenology with inductive-qualitative analysis through observation, interviews, documentation and triangulation. This study resulted in the finding that work travel behavior carried out by low-income families in rural areas was formed on the concepts of accessibility and economic strategy. Accessibility is define as the desire to get the ease of traveling to work to a location far from the place of residence because of the dynamics of family income without experiencing obstacles in the process of going to and from work. While the economic strategy is understood as a way to maintain the economy they have because of the dynamics of income which gives pressure to this community to travel to look for opportunities to improve the family economy. Through this understanding, the use of private modes of transportation is a way for these family groups to continue to be able to travel even far from their homes without having to experience obstacles in the process of their journey. In addition, the researchers saw that in working trips, there was competition by low income family groups and the physical changes of space in Kampung Tepo affected these groups in terms of their preference for the choice of transportation modes that tended to use private transportation.
