GAS MAGIC: EKSPLOITASI GAS TANPA KONFLIK DI PAGERUNGAN BESAR

Berbagai studi mengenai sumberdaya alam, khususnya eksploitasi minyak dan gas, telah secara konsisten menunjukkan penolakan dari masyarakat lokal hingga konflik kekerasan atas kegiatannya. Namun, seperti dalam penelitian ini, eksploitasi gas yang telah berlangsung sejak tahun 1990-an di Pagerungan Besar, justru beroperasi tanpa penolakan bahkan konflik dari masyarakatnya. Untuk menjelaskan hal tersebut, gas perlu dipahami sebagai materialitas yang terdistribusi dan relasional di seluruh elemen manusia dan bukan manusia. Pemahaman tradisi antropologi klasik tentang magis juga dipakai untuk melihat kekuatan material dari gas. Hasil penelitiannya adalah bagaimana eskploitasi gas di Pagerungan Besar telah menujukkan operasi teknologi tak beresiko dan kekuatan material gas, sehingga masyarakatnya menerima, dan mempercayai bahwa praktik ekstraktif berupa eksploitasi gas tidak perlu ditolak dan dijadikan medan konflik kekerasan.

Various studies of natural resources, especially oil and gas exploitation, have consistently shown resistance from local communities to violent conflicts over their activities. However, as in this study, the gas exploitation that has been going on since the 1990s in Pagerungan Besar, it operates without rejection and even conflict from the people. To explain this, gas needs to be understood as materiality that is distributed and relational in all human elements and not humans. Understanding the classical anthropological tradition about magic is also used to see the material strength of gas. The results of his research are how gas exploitation in Pagerungan Besar has shown that technology operations have no risk and material strength of gas, so that the people accept, and believe that extractive practices in the form of exploitation of gas need not be rejected and used as a field of violent conflict.
